Somewhat new to the NKY area. How many divisions are there in the NKAC, and which schools are in each one? Is it separated public/private or are they mixed? Thanks in advance!

3 divisions. Large, medium, small size schools if you will. Public and Private mixed. Some schools don't really care about winning the NKAC conference championship, some do. I would say the D3 schools put more emphasis on it in general.

 

Top of my head: Some may be wrong.....

D1: Ryle, Cooper, Conner, Boone Co, Campbell Co, Covcath, Dixie, Simon Kenton,

D2: Holy Cross, NewCath, LLoyd, Beechwood, Newport, Brossart, Highlands, Holmes (although they may be D1?) St. Henry

D3: Bellevue, Dayton, Ludlow, Silver Grove, Villa, Calvary, Heritage

The All-A is for the smallest 130 (approximate) schools in the state so it includes some of the Division 2 schools also. The All-A goes by regions while the NKAC does not. The D3 schools do not have much success in the 9th region All-A . The NKAC schools are supposed to play each team in their division once and the winner is the one with the best record (D3 used to play each other twice and may still). But if games are snowed out or if a team is over the limit for games due to the All-A and other tourneys there has been times when the All-A game is used as an NKAC game.

Then come state tournament time, there are 4 divisions based on enrollment and they play there way down to 4 state champions. According to what you typed, and I may have misinterpreted it, the NKAC divisions don't do the same things. And you would think that the all A would be for the D3 schools to have a chance to play for something, but you said in the 9th region they don't have much success. Anyway, head is spinning a little, but I will get it down. I can't wait for games to start and learning who is the big rivals and such. I know NKY has a reputation for good basketball! Thanks again!

One class in basketball. 16 Regions in the state. NKY is 9th region and some 10th and 8th region schools. The three Kenton Co schools (Dixie, SK, Scott) are in three different regions. Go figure.

The NKAC really means very little and only gets talked about when it names all star teams at the end of the season. The district and regional affiliation are what really matters. Most people couldn't tell you, or even care who wins the NKAC divisions.

Teamfirst....the best thing about NKY is all the schools are so close (some same too close) so lots of rival games and good games without having to drive far.

So true. There's no conference schedule. You will never see standings published anywhere. No conference website. It's like it doesn't exist. Then out of thin air there's all-conference selections at the end of the season, but those are barely made public, and mean little since, like I said, no one even knows there's a conference.

I think it has become more to help with scheduling than any real competition. But a few schools can tell you when every NKAC game is and note it on their schedules. Other schools you never hear a peep about it.

In Ohio, I know conference races are a very big deal. A large portion of the season in Ohio is focused on conference games and winning a conference title. Schools don't care because it really doesn't mean anything. The state tournament is what matters. The NKAC is nothing more than an awards organization that honors the best players in the area at the end of the season. Aside from when those awards are announced, you'll never hear anything about it. For all intents and purposes, it really doesn't exist as a conference.
