As long as the kids are mixed up and not just a group of his own kids.

So let's say coaches from the same "tree" all have the same philosophies, schemes, etc... and go to the same camp, you're fine with it as long as they're inter-mixing players and coaching each others kids? If I were a coach that would be a no-brainer

I would say that is fine as long as team A is mixed in with team B kids. Just can't be all same kids.

Always has been, but in 2014 in Kentucky it's an issue.

People wonder why football players are so good in Texas, Florida and South Carolina. This type of argument is the reason. Other states put an emphasis on getting better, Kentucky fans want to step back, limit the progress of the players and threaten to sue if little Johnny gets hurt.

Ram...you already know I think the world of you on here, but we all know the real reason why these states are better....and, it's has to do with demographics in several areas.

Overall population, African American population, agricultural (not a whole lot of alfalfa and tobacco being grown in those areas), etc.

We agree a lot, and I agree with what you have wrote above. But, those great players do get opportunities to hone their skills and get college exposure at camps.

I agree with that. Football is more important in those places. Across the board. No doubt.

Case in point...HC's in Bama, GA and South Carolina making close to or 6 figures is more of a rule, than exception...here in KY, kittens would be crapped all of the place.

Exactly my point, it's important in those places. That's why I get upset when people in Kentucky want to pull back instead of moving forward. Kentucky football has gotten a lot better, but we can't put the breaks on.

Something else these states have going for them, and I will ALWAYS believe this (and guys a whole heck of a lot smarter than I will ever be are are ones who first brought it to my attention), but two more VERY IMPORTANT factors go into KY being behind these states (and, others) in regards to football:

1) Consolidation years back in many of these rural areas (not sure that it hurt, but considering the numbers it brought in...it hasn't exactly helped).

2) Way TOOOO many counties and TOO many schools for our state in regards to both population and physical area/size.

3) This ties into number 2, but seeing schools of 2,000-3,000+ kids or more in these states (especially Texas) is the norm. Here in KY, schools get to around that 2K mark and talks about making it smaller by building another school come about.

I had a former college teammate of mine from Victoria, TX....his HS had a little over 2K, another one across town was around the same size...guess what they did the year after he graduated?! That's right. They combined.

Just imagine this for example...let's say Warren County absorbed Simpson County, and instead of the 6 high schools that are amongst those communities now...imagine if Bowling Green/Warren Central and Warren East were one high school & Greenwood/South Warren/Franklin-Simpson were one...think those cats would make a little more noise on a state, region and national level more than they already do?!

To an extent, I agree. I would LOVE to see a month long dead period for all of July, though. For all sports. Want to go to individual camps during that time? Have at it. Some of these multi sport kids (which they NEED TO BE) absolutely go non-stop...and, needless to say..as you well know...football is one of those sports where you better have your engine well rested and ready to go.

Then again, I'm one of these guys that remembers when football was actually a fall sport.

Practice start August 1....1st games not until Labor Day weekend or the week after....6 class system wants to stick? Fine. 11 game regular season. District Champ and the runner up go to the playoffs. Finish one week later in December than we do now; and, for the basketball guys who roll their eyes at the thought of that.....it's always 70 degrees and sunny for them no matter the time of year....be it their actual season, or the 9, 764 games schedule they play in June. :)

I've hi-jacked enough. Apologies.

I try to keep that to a one thread per week minimum. :jump:

We agree on about everything here Harry. We'll let the argument continue though.

In my experiences football guys roll their eyes and cry more about basketball than basketball guys cry about football. :D

I cry about canceled basketball games because of snow when the roads are clear at 5:00pm!!!!!!!

lol. About right.

Speaking as a former basketball player here as you know and one that loves the sport (as you know), the June season is the biggest gripe.

I bet a compromise could be worked out.

The football season backs up like I mentioned above.

May- Spring Football. Even allow a Spring game vs. outside competition (or two...4 weeks of practice, 2 games).

June- Hardwood crazies go nuts.

July- Errrrrrrryyyboddy off.

August 1- First day of football practice.

Labor Day weekend- Opening weekend of the season.

11 game regular season.

2nd Weekend in December- State finals (after taking only the top 2 from each district).

Oh you know....b/c if they play, then that means "Sports are more important that academics!" The world needs those people ya know.
