9th Region Top 10 Players Candidates

Featured Replies

Not sure if I can narrow down a top 10 just yet for the 9th.

Who are LEGIT candidates(legit being key)?

Maybe by team:

Bolden and McClendon from Holmes

McDonald, Weyer, Pangallo from NC

VonHandorf and Schuh from CCH

Stanley from Boone

Schreck and Rabe from Dixie

Snapp from Newport

McNeil, Hathorn, Leichty from Cooper

Puthoff from Ryle

Kunstek from St Henry

Any other legit candidates?

Of those my definite players in the to 10 in no order:

Bolden

McDonald

CVH

Stanley

Weyer

Pangallo

Schreck

Snapp

Last 2 are tough.

3 from NCC? They are your preseason favorite I'm guessing?

Bo Schuh has to be in the top 10... no doubt about it. He outworked the NCC bigs in their regional game... and then outworked every other big man in CCH's path to a state title last season. He is EASILY better than 4 of the guys you have on your list.

I think it is really tough to compile a top 10 list this season since there is no real "star power" outside of Bolden and McDonald.

If I were compiling a top 20 list and using Clyde's breakdown of teams, I'd go with the following:

Holmes- Bolden, McClendon, Avery

Newcath- Pangallo, Moeves, Weyer, McDonald (There's a reason they are likely preseason #1)

Covcath- VonHandorf, Schuh

Dixie- Rabe, Schreck, Moore (Have been told Drew has been their best player this summer when he's there)

Cooper- Hathorn, Liechty, McNeil (Kid dropped 45 in a game this summer)

St Henry- Kunsteck

Ryle- Puthoff,

Newport- Snapp

Conner- Mike Scott (I really like the potential with him this year. He might be a year away from cracking this list but definetly can play)

Highlands- Parker Harris

A few other names that I like to make an impact for their team this season:

Dante Hendrix- Cooper

Tyreke Owens- Ryle

Paul Price- Newport

Alec Garnett- Conner

Paul Wallenhorst- St Henry

Adam Goetz- St Henry

Grant Romes- Covcath

Matt Schumate- Covcath

Brett Mayberry- Boone Co

Tyler Bezold- Holy Cross

Jacob Huff- Beechwood

A name for everyone to remember:

Marcus Mullins- Holmes

One of the best unknown juniors in the area, IMO. Really smooth. If not for injuries last season, he would have likely been one of the best jv players in NKY as a soph.

I failed to include Bo Schuh in my definite 10. He is.

Heck, he CAN be a top 2 or 3. Just needs consistency and to stay on the floor and out of foul trouble.

I'll throw Mitch Bolin's name out there as someone to watch... he looks like a totally different player this AAU season. In the few games I've seen he looks stronger and WAY MORE aggressive around the basket... and with his kind of size at 6'8 that can definitely impact a game.

Definitely a player to watch. Offensive game struggles but he is long and can jump.

Mitch Bolin could have a similar impact that Jake Schulte had last year if he continues to develop. Schulte was a little more skilled offensively, but defensively, there's no reason why Mitch shouldn't impact the game any time he's on the floor.

I think Matt Isbel is another kid that, with added confidence, could really come out of no where and surprise people. One of the best athletes in the area.

As far as underclassmen go, I don't think you can leave Snapp, CVH, or Weyer off any top 10 list.

To me CVH is a clear #3 in the region this year, behind Beetle and Drew, and then everyone else battles for that #4-10 spots. I think CVH is a 17-20 point per game guy as a sophomore on the 1st or 2nd best team in the 9th...pretty heady stuff.

Bo's inconsistency, to me, drop him down the list to the bottom third of the top 10. I'd have Stanley, Schreck, and Pangallo in the 4-6 spots in some order. 7-10 would likely include Bo, Rabe, Weyer, and Snapp in some order. A couple of the Cooper kids would be right behind them if anyone slips up.

I've had the chance to watch CVH a lot this summer. He is a nice player for a kid that's going to be a sophomore but to say he's the clear #3 seems irrational to me. There's a lot of talent in that region. Take Ethan Snapp as just one example. You can't convince me that he's better than Snapp. They are different players but...

Bolden and MacDonald are the top 2 by a wide margin.

I'm nothing if not irrational. To the bolded, thanks for the heads up, I certainly won't try. We'll let the on-the-court performances speak for themselves, and of course, we'll always be able to look at the D1 offers the two compile as a way of getting the opinions of those that do it for a living.

Certainly an objective way of determining it. In the end, by those measures, I believe it will show. We shall see.
