What about Daniel Murphy from the Mets? Since he is under contract & controlled, is the price too high?

I'll try to carve out some time today to put together a comprehensive list of players position by position I think they could get (and at a reasonable price).

 

For now, let's stick to a couple options from various areas.

 

Seth Smith, San Diego, OF: Been struggling lately, but still a very solid OBP, a decent average, and probably wouldn't cost a lot.

 

Casey McGehee, Miami, 3B/1B: Having a whale of a season. Leads the NL in hits, and would be a huge addition to the lineup. Would cost more than a guy like Smith, but would probably be worth it.

 

Daniel Murphy, New York Mets, 2B: Probably a longshot. Team friendly deal, and one of the more underrated 2B in the game. Mets would have to be blown away to move him though IMO. I'd at least make the call though.

 

Ben Zobrist/Logan Forsythe, Tampa Bay, 2B: Zobrist is the bigger name, and the much better player, but would take more to get. Either could be had reasonably though IMO.

 

Marlon Byrd, Philadelphia Phillies, OF: While his power numbers (18 HR, 52 RBI) are stellar, his OBP and average leaves a lot to be desired. Under control for next season as well, makes $8M per. Would be a nice addition, although Ludwick has a higher average & OBP. Would probably take a decent package.

Chase Headley, Josh Willingham or Kendrys Morales could all benefit from playing in GABP and shouldn't be too expensive. It is a shame that Michael Cuddyer is injured right now, he'd be perfect.

 

Like all those options, although I don't know how feasible any of them are. I would venture Willingham and Morales would be more easily acquirable than Headley though.

As bad as TB's start was there's no way they think they're out of that cluster of a division. Plus they are really smart so they would probably have to win any trade to make one. Not sure the TB guys are a real option.

Seth Smith just signed an extension.

Gordon Beckham of the White Sox is another 2B option that could be had rather cheaply IMO.

UKMF, like your list (I really like Ben Zobrist). One player you didn't mention that I think may have some legs is Martin Prado of the D-Backs.

 

edit: Beckham and Dunn to play first and second for the Reds is catching some momentum in Chicago.

^They're almost a lock to deal Price. Zobrist is another name that everyone says is headed out the door. They know they can't afford to keep Price, and if he's gone they have no shot.

 

If they trade Price I agree they may make other moves. Why not take one last shot w/ him though? They can't be afraid of Baltimore or Toronto running away from them. I understand though they would take the right offer for Price.

No doubt. I love Prado as well. He'll be on my comprehensive list I hope to get up later today. :thumb:

I think Marlon Byrd is too expensive for the Reds.

I've always like Gordon Beckham (for some reason) and I think he'd be a solid fit for the Reds, especially with BP out.

Same with Martin Prado. I think he'd be a good fit for the Reds, although he has been struggling this season (with the exception of a 3 week stretch).

 

His ability to play multiple positions is also very appealing.

I'll also say, if they were able to swing a deal with the White Sox and bring Beckham and Dunn back without having to give up a ton, I'd be cool with it.
