It's amazes me to see how people are saying, "Shame on you players that didn't show up." "The players that didn't show should not be invited back next year." But not one person mentioned the Itinerary list for these boys; especially those from Jefferson County in PUBLIC SCHOOLS!!!!!!!

 

Unlike the private schools and county schools JCPS was still in full swing...In fact it was finals week. So why did the Kentucky selection committee choose to have practices and meet and greets for the players during school hours the week that JCPS where doing finals? People should know their facts!

 

This generation of athletes have a closer bond than years past. They post messages via social media. So hell yeah. If I had a son, and he didn't make the team and I got wind that spots could possibly be open. I would push for my son to "Just show up too!"

 

To be all the way real, If in fact there is no politics involved and FAIR is FAIR...Sure boys did work their butt off trying to earn a spot they were also working for the "R. Spalding spot too. Word is he got hurt and didn't even finish tryouts. Yes, it was unfortunate but is it fair. Should those boys from JCPS who didn's show be held liable because they chose education first? Speak on it! I'd like to see the weigh in on that.

 

The only no shows I have seen people talking about attend school at Knott County Central which is far away from JCPS.

I was at the tryouts and Spalding did get hurt but he also finished the tryout session.

I don't care if he couldn't try out. If he was healthy enough for the Indiana game, I want him on the team. I want Kentucky to win and think he gives them the best chance to do that. Same goes for Bolden. If there are kids who are so much better than them that they can't make the cut, then we shouldn't be losing to Indiana.

If you are not going to show, don't feed your ego by beating someone out just to rub it further in his face, by not showing up to represent the state and honor to the best of your ability. If you are injured, that is another story and you sit on the bench and provide all the support you can for the TEAM! Values! Values! Values! There is a price all of us need to learn for not doing what is the right thing. Mom and Dad taught me that 60 years ago.

 

I do not have a vote for Mr. Ky. Basketball, but if I did it would be challenged and the 2014-2015 season first whistle hasn't been blown!

I don't disagree. I want the best players on the court. While I was disappointed in the tryout process I did want to clarify that Spalding was at tryouts and that I saw him get hurt and I then saw him return to the court.

I'm just saying I don't care if Spalding couldn't try out but was going to be fine for the game. In my eyes, he's one of the few guys in the State that has pretty much earned his spot on the team regardless just based on all of his past accomplishments. I want he and Bolden on the team.

 

Other guys, it's different because you want to see them perform against other top kids and how they stack up. Seeing how the rest of the guys in the state stack up to those two is basically pointless though.

Keep your commitments! At what age did we all learn this? If you can't make the game, defer to someone else that might help Ky. win. Why hold tryouts if the selection committee already has the teams picked. Was it to collect the$5 pocket change at the door from parents and grand parents who chose to sit as spectators.

You're absolutely right no one talked about the kids from JCPS...but ironically JP out of Ballard didn't make team 1 nor did some long fella name duanny I believe who clearly dominated tryouts. It's rigged. Talk about your warriors and sharpshooters all you want; as a JCPS retiree I commend all the boys and their parents who chose their sons education over a "Jr" I repeat a. "Jr" All star game!

I wanted to clarify something that was mentioned in this morning's paper. It mentioned that Bolden had a very game on Saturday, which he did, but that McDonald didn't play. To be perfectly clear, McDonald WAS NOT INVITED to play in Saturday's game by the selection committee. They picked a core of 6 players who were supposed to play in BOTH games and 6 players who were supposed to play Friday and 6 DIFFERENT players who were supposed to play in Saturday's game. McDonald was selecteted to play Friday but not Saturday (for whatever reason). So he was NOT one of the players who did not show for Saturday's game. The coaching staff, if they knew in advance 3 players were not going to be there Saturday easily could have asked 3 players from Friday's team to also play Saturday, but they didn't. If McDonald had been asked he certainly would have been there, and undoubtedly would have helped them. The whole selection process was a mess from beginning to end.

Yes, these are the facts; and I agree with you 100% when you said, "The whole selection process was a mess from beginning to end." The committee proudly boasted how there was a "record # of invites." Yes there was and if you did a headcount of the # of paying spectators...it adds up to a nice small chunk of change. These boys know that it's an honor to represent their state and all I'm sure had legitimate reasons as to why they skipped.

I think its wrong for people to immediately jump to conclusions and bash these boys without knowing all the FACTS! Thanks again :)

Until Kentucky does away with the "tryout" and does the selection process like Indiana by having the coaches and media vote on the team, Kentucky will continue to get swept year in and year out, regardless of how good the talent is here in KY.
