I do agree Popovich is must watch tv, he is hilarious. I personally love watching the Spurs, they play the game the way it's meant to be played -- unselfish and with beautiful passing and playmaking.

Going into the 4th in Game 5, the Thunder are really gassed and starting to get frustrated. They're making the Spurs take some really hard fouls right now.

Hopefully OKC now that we have a series again.

 

 

What was wrong with Ibaka? He went from out of the playoffs to day-to-day to the starting lineup. Paul Pierce-like.

How exactly are they dull?? They move the ball better than any other team imo and they can score a ton as well. What's dull? Winning?

Their personalities definitely make them boring. So vanilla. So efficient but so vanilla. I wish one of them would talk crap on somebody. Do something.

 

I don't watch basketball for trash talk. You must love WWE if you want drama. I love that they just play snd they do it well. The way they play is awesome to watch imo.

I'd rather see the Heat beat OKC but I like both teams so I'd be happy for KD and Russ. Russ especially.

 

I can't stand Westbrook. He seems like a jerk snd I love watching them get spanked like they have in the 3 spurs wins

It is crazy how the match-ups work. KD-Westbrook can get hot, but the Heat would much rather play the Thunder than the Spurs, IMO. The Spurs are the awesome version of the Pacers with no mental midgets. Thunder are a terrible match-up for San Antonio.

I think the spurs win the title last year if Parker didn't get hurt.

I know it can be really funny and entertaining, but sometimes the way Popovich comes off to reporters is just a little too insulting for my taste. I know that most of the people in the industry know how he means it and such, but I still think he sometimes crosses the line. He's not really the best sport when he's losing either.

 

I know he's supposedly all-business and that most coaches would rather focus on winning the game than paying lip service to a television reporter during an interview, but without the tv contracts, reporters, etc., he's not getting a fraction of his salary, so I'm not really sympathetic to his plight. That act reminds me of some of the things people abhorred about Billy Gilispie, but Popovich will continuously get a pass on it.

 

Sure, his act can be really funny in small doses, but when you live here and have tons of games on tv and those types of interviews forced down your throat on the sports radio show, blogs, etc., it gets a little tired, especially with everyone gushing about great it is. I felt waaay differently about this before moving into this market.

 

As a fan, it's somewhat insulting to watch a game solely for the sake of watching and analyzing basketball, then having one of the best minds in the game come off as smug and standoffish when asked for an analysis. I'm sure he could throw in a nice nugget for the fans occasionally that wouldn't give away any part of his strategy that the other team wasn't already keenly aware. For fans who were tuning in after the 40 point blowout of the Timberwolves in the middle of the week, things like that would be nice to listen to on the way home from the game.

 

There's a time and place for that type of humor, and while his dry sarcasm can be great, I'm not going to go out and buy a ticket for his stand-up routine. I'm not really sure it's the most ringing endorsement of someone in his position when you are judging a "good" interview in terms of the absence of him being a jerk.

Pop does actually give insight from time to time. He's done it more than once for Aldridge in the conf finals.

True. I never really noticed how bad it was until I was here, and it's good in small doses. Trust me though, it wears thin when it's almost an every game thing. I think part of what irks me about it is something beyond his control too, as he can't really influence what is said/written about him, and he's never really called out on it.

 

If they didn't win, most people who love it would quickly grow annoyed, though I understand that by winning, he's earned his right to do stuff like that and not take the same heat that others would.

I used to watch the WWE religiously. Triple H isn't the same though. Back when he and The Rock were in their prime was good watching though.

Definitely don't think he's the kind of guy who cares if he's called on it or not.

 

I'm not really a fan of in-game interviews either because I think it distracts the coaches from the game and that's what the commentators are there for, but like you, I understand why they have them.

 

To each his own on loving it, I can definitely appreciate it at times, but just get tired of it at others.

 

 

Will agree that seeing the Spurs execute their offense, running 2-3 pick and rolls in a 24 second set, using "misdirection" to set up what they actually want to run, etc. is a thing of beauty and is something basketball pursuits should love.
