Add Ray Spalding?

Yes :thumb:

Going to be a great July.... July schedule includes Adidas Tournament in Indy, Peach State in Aiken South Carolina (couple miles from Peach Jam), AAU Showcase in Louisville (only select teams invited)..

Did Spalding play in Nashville?

No, family issue... Will be playing in July..

My understanding was he was unhappy playing with them.. There was talk before AAU season started that he was going to play with TheVille2015.. Any other rumors besides he did not want to play with Travelers anymore is false. There was also another Trinity kid quit the Travelers.

So, it had nothing to do with lack of loyalty or finishing what you started?

It couldn't of been because of playing time. I wouldn't think it's not getting along with other players. He played with Beverly, Bolden and Justice last year.

I would think this would not look good to college coaches. What happened to finishing what you started?

I would think the players on the travelers would feel a sense of betrayal and let down.

Being that it's AAU, I don't think the college coaches will care. Kids bounce around all the time. It may be harder for them to find him though if they aren't notified of the change.

I can understand the Traveler teammates being upset, it hurts any chemistry they may have had.

Finishing what you start, also depends on what his goals are. If he reaches his goals with The Ville, then he will have finished what he started.

As long as The Ville isn't selling him false dreams, all should be fine for him.

People change teams all the time.. Spaulding played with TheVille for a couple of years back in the past. Nobody saying anything with the kids that moved on from the magic... The kid was not happy, so now he is playing with a bunch of friends of his.. Basketball at this age is about having fun, if you really know the kids, that is what is happening for Spaulding..

So if your son started with a team and played 50% - 70% of a season and came to you and said he was UNHAPPY, would you:

1) Listen to his concerns and make sure you teach him about commitment and loyalty. Are you going to teach him sometimes in life it's not easy however you need to make the best of it. You don't quit. Finish what you started and next year we will re-evaluate what team is the best fit. OR

2) teach him to run just because things aren't going your way?

Now, if the Travelers coaches or players are mis-treating him none of this matters and you leave the team. That's not what's happening here.

Spaulding played very little with the Travelers. Didn't go to Sacramento due to ankle injury, played in Dallas, and only played 2 games in Hampton due to turned ankle. He did not go to MN evidently because he quit. Really didn't play enough with them to have a legitimate complaint.

If it hurt his style of game, nothing wrong with leaving. If your job doesn't pay well for the unhappiness you feel will you stay.

Every situation is different. I'd be shocked if he hadn't already been given the advice to stick to his commitments and stay with the team. Now that he has done that how can you make him get on the court? Especially if he is saying he is too hurt to play? We can teach our kids all of the "right" things to say and do and if it gets to a point to where money is being spent for my kid to be unhappy with his situation then I should probably re-evaluate my priorities and not his.

This is just AAU basketball.. You have to find what makes you happy... The cost to play with TheVille2015 & Travelers are the same (which is really only hotel cost for parents).. He is doing what makes him Happy, get to work out with a former UofL big man to refine his game. Plus TheVille2015 relies on scoring from all positions (very good team play) plus the level of competition is really no different than EYBL (people would be surprised).. Being happy playing basketball at the high school level is important as it drives his desire at the next level. Spaulding has a great future in front of him no matter where he plays.
