I meant sad for the kids, who have learn the system and now its back to the drawing board for them.

They went from one extreme to the other, on the offensive side of things.

One thing is for sure. They had to make him a sweet deal after him being their 4th pick.

Corbin faithful probably humbled by this a little. They didn't get the interest from big names they were expecting, and they hired a guy with about a 500 record in the end. He will do well but in the end I bet deep down they regret putting the screws to a proven coach.

He was not their 4th choice, it really came down to a toss-up between him and one other after they decided not to hire from within. Who were these big names you are talking about they expected interest from?

Back on topic, how many years was Haddix at PCC and what was his record?

Didn't he bring a big change in style to their team and wasn't his tenure considered successful?

I believe he was something like 26-20 in his 4 years as head coach, which was considered a success. He was really young when he got that head coaching job as I think that he may still be in his 20's now.

4 seasons @ PCC.

2010--7-4

2011-9-3

2012--4-7

2013-6-6

26-20 overall. Haddix holds a career record of 26-20. He also has the record @ PCC for schools win and first playoff win in school history. Perry Central lost a very good coach. Justin knows the game as good as anyone his age. Corbin got a very good coach, regardless of him being their fourth option. A pretty cool fact, Haddix lead Breathitt Co over Corbin 51-0 in the state championship game his senior year of high school.

Really surprised by this hire.

They guys they wanted to hire didn't want it, what do you do. Corbin has a lot of talent coming up the ranks. They will be fine.

It would be something for PCC if they could somehow sway Al Hollan Jr from Pikeville College.

He will do fine. Great coach. People get caught up in this record stuff way too much. So many programs, PCC for one, are just so up and down when it comes to the bodies they have to work with. PCC is the 2nd tier program in that county, and I don't see that changing for sometime. The fact that he left PCC with a winning record, playoff win (first ever in schools history), etc...tells me all I need to know.

Kind of like I've heard coaches in Georgia say about KY guys that end up going down there, "If he can win at all in Kentucky, he can coach." If you can win at a school like PCC (and, no offense here, 80% of the schools in KY are like PCC..middle of the road programs), then he will be able to win at Corbin.

They guys they wanted to hire didn't want it, what do you do. Corbin has a lot of talent coming up the ranks. They will be fine.

Understood completely. Just think it's a bit of a rush. I'm surprised that Haddix got the nod because I didn't think that he was very high on their list of candidates. Haddix will be a GREAT coach in time. I just don't know if a guy that hasn't seen the age of 30 pass him by yet is ready for the bear that is Corbin athletics, especially Corbin football.

I'm not sure whether you could correctly consider Corbin a football or a basketball school if you had to choose one over the other. I'd call them a football and basketball school, but they take each very serious.

Anyway, back when the basketball squad hired Pietrowski in the early 2000's, they got a guy who'd starred as a Corbin athlete and had roots there, but the natives were still restless with the product he was putting out on the floor.

Haddix doesn't have any ties to Corbin that are immediately apparent and you'd have to agree is still a little green when it comes to coaching in general. Compare that with his not having the advantage of knowing the lay of the land or having been a star athlete for the school in the way that Coach Pietrowski had and you might have a recipe for someone who doesn't get to stick around long enough to build the program and enjoy the same success as Coach P.

If the Redhound faithful are patient, then there is no reason why Haddix can't succeed, I just don't know how they'll handle the speed bumps along the way.

Jewell took Corbin to a State Championship game. They had lost (badly) in the playoffs on the road to the eventual State Champs 2 out of the past 3 seasons.

If we go 3 out of 4, you'll see a bad home loss to the eventual champ (who beat the their opponent in the Championship game just as badly) in the semis. That was in 2A, which Corbin doesn't appear to be in under the proposed alignment that will take effect next.

Even from there, we can go 4 out of 6 and see that they lost to the eventual runner up in the State Semi. The NCC team that beat them 26-7 went on to lose to a good Fort Campbell team in the finals 26-23.

If Corbin fans weren't happy with what Jewell was doing, I'm not convinced that they'd have envisioned turning the reigns over to a young guy in Haddix who hasn't been past the 2nd Round of the 5A playoffs.

Again, I think Haddix will be a GREAT coach one day. I just don't know if Corbin fans (boosters, administration, parents, etc.) will be patient enough with him, especially through the installation of a new offense, for his biggest wins to come on their sideline.

In the grand scheme of things, this is a huge risk unless each plans on making this a long-term project. Unless Corbin has some major talent coming up that really fits his system, you are throwing a guy with 4 years' head coaching experience (at a basketball school) into the cauldron if you expect him to have the kind of success that most fans thought they should have had over the past few years in anything less than 4-5 seasons. Over time, I think Haddix will be great, but I'm not sure if he's going to be able to have the kind of leeway that will be required.

If it's a rebuilding job, then so be it, it's a great fit and they got their man. I just think it's going to take some real time for them to completely re-invent their system, implement that at the youth levels, then start to see some real results against the likes of the new 3A with Central, Boyle County (with Smith), Lexington Catholic, Belfry, Bell County, (or even western schools like Elizabethtown, Fort Campbell, and Paducah Tilghman).

Really surprised by this hire.

It will be interesting this season have a tough opening schedule I have been told.

If Corbin fans weren't happy with what Jewell was doing, I'm not convinced that they'd have envisioned turning the reigns over to a young guy in Haddix who hasn't been past the 2nd Round of the 5A playoffs.

The biggest complaints that I heard concerning Coach Jewell, and I'm not trying to say they were valid or not, were the following:

1. Showed favoritism to his son and nephew by trying to make them the stars during the 2011 and 2012 seasons, although I don't really buy into this very much.

2. A lot of the star middle school players either did not play at all or quit early once in high school during this same period.

3. They either practiced, played a game or watched film 7 days a week.

4. It was not fun.

5. They had several players transfer out to other schools, mainly Williamsburg.

6. He favored kids who were yes sir/no sir types and played them over "fringe kids" who were better players.

7. The offense had become too predictable.

Does anyone know what Corbin has coming back and/or what they have coming up through their feeders?

Who will play QB next season if they are going to sling it around? Top WR's?

That's fair, and I didn't really follow Corbin closely enough to know many of those things.

Thanks for the input, it is definitely appreciated. If the game isn't fun like you mentioned in #4, then having a young, energetic coach should cure things. Same goes for #7 with the type of offense Haddix has promised to bring in.

I think Haddix will be a great coach one day, I'm just not sold on Corbin being the school that he soars to great heights with.

As for #5, are were there any kids, particularly during Williamsburg's last run, that would have otherwise been at CHS?

I wouldn't call corbin a "basketball" school

Their QB last year lives in Corbin's school district and went to Corbin up through 4th grade or so before having a falling out over an all star baseball team that Coach Jewell was an asst. coach on. One of Williamsburg's better linemen transferred in the middle of his soph. year, supposedly over lack of playing time on the baseball team, but had not played football since his 8th grade year. They had another starter or two who transferred before ever playing at Corbin as well.

Does anyone know what Corbin has coming back and/or what they have coming up through their feeders?

Who will play QB next season if they are going to sling it around? Top WR's?

They return 9 offensive starters including the QB, but the heir apparent at QB who was a freshman, transferred after the football season. He transferred to Knox Central where he is expected to be their starting QB this fall. They have an 8th grade to be QB that is suppose to be very good. The main receiving threat graduates this year though.

The defense returns 7 starters
