Beechwood actually ran the ball more than they passed last season. Around 270 rushing attempts for 1520 yards, with 262 passing attempts for 2285. These rushing attempts do not include Fieger's carries or yards. 5.63 yards per carry and 8.72 yards per passing attempt, with 21 rushing TD's and 28 passing TD's.

Beechwood didn't field the caliber of defensive team last year that they normally do. This really showed up in the loss to Frankfort in the playoffs. I fully expect them to be on top of that because if they don't they wont make it out of the west.

Just because Williamsburg made it to the state finals last year or they do this year doesn't make them the 2nd best team in 1A. Beechwood is a solid top 3 team in 1A while I'd peg W'burg around 6th. The rankings should be how they stand overall or just rank them East to West. I saw most of the top teams in 1A last season and Williamsburg was not even close to the #2 team in 1A.

 

So are you basing your results off the title game? I am by no means a Williamsburg fan but you cant compare them from that one game against an superior Mayfield who beat everybody last year. Different teams match up with so who is to say that Williamsburg couldn't of stopped the likes of Frankfort, Beechwood or Russellville.. I mean they did a pretty solid job at stopping Jones but hazard did go away from him to throw the ball because they were in panic mode. But no one should really base off that poor performance. I mean I remember the Hazard team of 2011 that was killed in the title game in 2010 and was given no chance in the title game in 2011 and they came out and controlled the game and won the schools first ever state title.

I agree. Most of the top teams in the west would have beaten Williamsburg. Mayfield (who did), Frankfort, Beechwood, even Bellevue last year would have given them a run for their money. The West was just stronger than the east. Maybe this year will be different. I like 6 A where they mix it up every year with which district plays which in the playoffs. Kind of gives a Sweet sixteen feel when the set up is different every year.

If Talley was healthy, and Studer didn't get knocked out of the game on the first drive, that game vs. Frankfort ends differently. Talley is an incredible athlete and Studer was the voice of that defense. Team looked lost without him on the defensive side of the ball. No excuses though, I fully expect the Tigers to regroup and make a run at the title. For sure one of the top 2 teams in 1A.

Yes Williamsburg was not the 2nd best team last year by no means but they are worthy of top 5. But for 2014 they do have a very good shot at being ranked higher than 5th.. I do think with a team that returns as much as they do they orta get just a little respect. But we all know when the real rankings come out they won't be 2nd..

They do have the runner up trophy and they did accomplish a lot .

Raceland will have to fill some positions, most definitely their offensive and defensive lines. The Regional Championship team had four three-year starters on both sides of the lines. They have talent everywhere and they need to utilize their speed they will have. Connor Messer, along with Josh Young, attended the Blue Grey Football combine in Cincinnati yesterday. I do believe he will be playing next year for the Rams.

 

From other view points, looks like a good preseason ranking for Class A football. Mayfield will top the list until they're beaten. Period. I heard Williamsburg graduates barely anything from last year's runner up team. Look for them to make a statement early.

 

I have heard that although there are huge losses (both in size and graduation) that there were a lot of very talented linemen on the JV and Freshmen teams, is that true ? I know that all levels of Raceland football ...jv., fr., jr. high had very good records, a lot of talent. I had one person tell me that at least for 4-5 years Raceland should remain very good. I think that some inexperience on the varsity level and a new coach will be the hurdles to get over. A couple of things that should help are a lot of the underclassmen / jv and fr. players got significant playing time last season due to the number of blowouts on the varsity games. As for Coach Salmons, him being an asst, coach for years under both coaches Vanderhoof and Maynard along with knowing the kids will be very valuable. Of course, quite a difference in being an asst. to head coach. How well Salmons makes those adjustments will be key.

One thing for certain be it bad or good is that at Raceland there is very little to no time given to Win, it's expected from every team, every coach in every season in Ram Land.
