The Temptations or The Four Tops?

After listening to some Marvin Gaye last night, due to another thread, it's been a Motown Friday today! Been playing a lot from some of the groups back then, namely The Temptations and The Four Tops.

 

I know The Temptations probably have more notoriety, but I think Levi Stubbs and TFT can hold their own up against them. Who do you prefer? (And yes, this is probably aimed more for the 40+ crowd. :lol2: )

I'm almost 33...but I'm also a music geek. I think The Four Tops have their place in the timeline of great American music, but my preference is The Temptations, and it's not even really that close of a competition to me.

 

Here's one of my favorite Temptations songs. And as much as I like the song, the cover by The Faces actually makes it into my relatively short list of "cover songs that were better than the original".

4 tops, but honestly, always liked both. Really liked the Chi-Lites

This is like picking between Halle Berry and Scarlett Johannson ie I can't go wrong either way.

 

Levi Stubbs' voice causes me to side with the Tops in a "photo finish."

Picked up one of their album "A Lonely Man" on vinyl about a week ago at Highland Records here in Louisville. Good stuff - and they're DEFINITELY under appreciated.
