The BLM announced it would stop the roundup of cattle owned by rancher Cliven Bundy Saturday morning. The BLM says the animals have been illegally grazing on public lands for 20 years and has spent the past week gathering the cattle from land near Gold Butte.

According to sources, the BLM wants to proceed with the sale of the cattle already gathered during the roundup but is reportedly willing to share the revenue from the sale with Bundy.

 

BLM will stop stealing cattle from Bundy apparently, though what they will do with the previously stolen cattle is up in the air.

 

They claim there has been illegal grazing for 20 years. '20 years'? It seems that if something remains in dispute for 20 years its really not a dispute. Its a precedent.

 

Of course the reason to 'control grazing' and charge fees was to save the desert tortoise. But that was premise was either flawed or a just a plain lie as shown by a formal report. The tortoise does better where cattle graze.

In an article I read the this statement was used, "Control our borders, not our ranchers." If the federal government put as much effort into enforcing current immigration laws there would be no 'broken immigration' problems.

I agree with you. However, I think you misunderstood the nature of my post. I quoted TB and G, not your post. I did not take your reference to mean HR should be killed, and I took exception to that question.

I wonder about the government's claim about $1 mio + in unpaid fees as well. I have worked with the government enough to know that even when they screw up, you get a bill + penalties + fees + interest, and a $26 tax bill costs hundreds or thousands of dollars.

 

I calculated at $1.35 per head fee X 12 months X 500 head (Mr. Bundy's herd) the total without interest taxes for 20 years is $162,000. So where does the $1 mio come from?

 

Summary is: don't **** off a stupid person with power (ie. government).
