Because you are always mentioning the Tomahawks, if they don't matter, don't mention them. If they do, and they must, then I am pointing out a kid who probably wasn't good enough to make the mighty Tomahawk team beat him in a crucial season ending game. (oh I know high school ball doesn't mean as much as summer ball with umpires hired by the hosting club to umpire a game at the hosting club park.)

 

I could give a rats butt about the Tomahawks. The only context that I mentioned them in was that they had some results available quicker than most other sources and that's how it creeps into the BGP. I also pointed out in a previous post that it was a Tiger giving up a dinger to a Colonel and it had nothing to do with the Tomahawks. Nothing more...end of story. A good pitch was hit out. Kudos to the Dixie hitter. Quit making a big deal out of one play that happened last season that had nothing to do with Tomahawks, Wig Wams, Tee Pees.....whatever.

Hopefully that kind of a "donkey kickin'" will wake a team up to better themselves. I'm sure Coach Fussinger will see to that.

 

Ask some of the coaches around the 9th region and see what they say? Krumps, Max, Roesel, Arlinghaus and others Roberts and Trame......the ones with some class. Its a typical small school mentality with a chip on their shoulder to do something like that. Reporting a score like that does nothing but humiliate those kids. I've been on the good end of many scores like that and NEVER reported a score that lopsided.

Sad, very sad indeed, not the score or how it was reported, but grown people crying about the score and how it's reported.

 

The score WAS 27-1! And THAT is how it should be reported! When you have a good team, or a team you are trying to get better, you play your best players regardless! If Beechwood wanted "stat stuffers, they would not have pulled their starters. For crying out loud, reserves were in by the second inning, what else do some people want? Beechwood to spot Dayton 20 runs before they even attempt to score? If you are afraid to lose, then DON'T PLAY!

Very tough situation for everyone. When your stuck on the field coaching 3rd base making substitutions is next to impossible. If the players were going station to station after it was out of hand then he did the right thing until he had a chance to study his book to sub players. Who says it was BW who reported the score anyway? We don't need PC police, my guess the Dayton players 10 years from now will get together.... one will say... remember when we played that team that had all the future college players on it? Man they were good!

These lopsided scores happen and get reported in every sport. 72-0 high school football playoff games get newspaper coverage. People and players were there, and the score is what it is. It getting reported accurately isn't any worse than actually living through it as it happens. This probably won't be the last time it happens, and this won't be the worst thing that happens to most of these kids this years....and it certainly won't change anyone's life. Just like not reporting it, or reporting it inaccurately. It's a baseball game.

Why are we so worried about embarrassing someone? If they don't want to be embarrassed then they need to work harder or quit. They don't have to play the game, they have options. Do you take extra bases? No. Do you strike out on purpose? No. There are ways of not running it up and I am sure Beechwood took those precautions. Please do not give everyone a flipping trophy because they participated. When those kids hit the real world after school they have no clue how to fail because everyone has babied them throughout their life.

I was wondering the same. That game was supposed to be played last week so with the potential of games today and tomorrow (All "A" Tourney) and a game Wednesday (Reds Showcase) they might have been very strategic with their line-up. They do have though a 4 man rotation if they needed one.
