Trinity 59 Ballard 58 (7th Region Championship)

Featured Replies

First quarter 3 point barrage was HUGE for Trinity. I think they hit 5 including one at the buzzer. 3 by Ramser then 2 by Levitch.

Score at the end of the 1st was 23-17 Trinity. After that it was Ballard 41-36.

Two biggest plays of the game were the missed alley-oop in the 4th by Martin which would have given Ballard an 8 point lead, then Ramser comes down off a pick and no one hedges and gives him yet another wide open three that he buried.

That kid shot the ball very well last night and was a big difference.

I wasn't at last nights game so I can't comment, but in the games I've seen Trinity goes inside when it is open but doesn't force it. It sounds to me like Ballard was determined to not let Spaulding beat them. Okay, he didn't, the other guys did.

Lots of strength and long arms underneath. Kelan Martin averages over 23 per game and had nine last night. Spalding was held to four. Just too much going on under the basket to get a look down there and half the time anyone got to the basket it was either blocked, altered, or stripped out of the guy's hands before he got it up.

Serious congestion down low.

That's what it sounded like to me. In that case, why force it?

I agree. And in those times when they did try to force it, there was usually a turnover. You've got plenty of guys capable of making shots from further out. Ballard packed guys in on Spalding and Trinity's shooters took advantage, especially early on.

One of the things I really like about this team is that when everyone is really playing hard, Trinity doesn't have to pack it in to defend the middle. Everyone can play really tight and count on Spalding to erase any errors.

Some Trinity individual stats:

Ramser-14, Stafford-12, Ivory-12, Owens 8 and 11, Levitch-6, Spalding 4 points (on 4 shots), 9 rebounds and 5 blocks.

Team effort.

Plus maybe somebody ought to think about the great fans who'd be there for their teams if they weren't ill, disabled, at PTA, and so forth. Scott County is an excellent model of a school that takes care of all of its fans with its iHigh streams & top quality announcers. If the Cardinal fans can get there, they will be there, wherever there is that night. But some just can't make it sometimes ~ or anytime.

Direct this to Supertindent Donna Hargens. FYI I agree with you wholehertedly.

Spalding's numbers do not glitter, 4 pts, 9 rebs, until you get to the 5 blocks. In a mid-scoring game that makes a difference, plus Craig Owens, not the biggest guy out there, knows how to get a rebound & a putback. Before the game we were talking about about how Ramser & Levitch would be non-factors. But those two guys & Michael Stafford were big.

Thanks. There's such a strong case to be made. I'll give her a try. I think there are more dynamics going on here. Schools decide whether to stream. I know Highlands does not allow video. That was the only game Scott County could not iHigh in the 2012 football season. I think a number of schools are not exactly warm to the idea. I just don't get it.

I thought the officials did a good job.

9th region guys. James Pouncy, Dave Kanarek, and Kenny Hicks.

I dont either. I'd love to be able to watch Louisville high schools play basketball from Danville, KY without having to travel to Louisville for every game I want to see.

Martin Finished his career with over 2100 points, 3rd all time at Ballard behind Snider and Houston. Snider finished with over 2600 points and 700 assists (2441 and 623 in 4 years at Ballard, both school records) the rest were from an 8th grade year at Fern Creek.

They never got the coveted state title though. Shows how hard it is to win it and to get out of the 7th region.

If Trinity wins it again, that's a major statement to have it twice in 3 years.
