Final

Hard fought game by both teams. Three things stuck out for me:

 

-Ryle 1/3/1 zone really stymied Conner early. Conner had trouble attacking and had multiple TO's.

-Defense in 2nd half by #20 on Hemmerich. Took him out of the game. Lock down mode.

-Ruholt injury killed Conner mojo. Kid had 16 in first half and did return in the 2nd half but just not the same. Kudos to him for gutting it out.

 

Good luck to both teams next week.

Congrats to Ryle. Both teams fought hard. Fun game to watch. Ruholt was en fuego before the unfortunate ankle roll at the end of the half. Puthoff hit some really clutch trifectas. White really busted his tail on defense. Stuhr has strong hands and goes after the ball hard. The Raiders continue to improve with their 7th straight win. DMac and staff deserve a lot of credit for bringing this team along nicely!

Not to toot my own horn here but I called Ryle becoming district champs ever since the tip of the Boone game. Don't understand why Ryle was believed not to come this far by many. Congrats to everyone involved in this great organization

Agreed. DMac is running a great organization and I can't say enough good about him as an outstanding person and coach. The culture of Ryle basketball has gone positive and the kids are having fun playing and they are very enjoyable to watch!! Go Raiders!

Congrats to Ryle! I'm not shocked. Coach McFarland really does a great job!

The 33rd District Tournament is what high school basketball is all about.

 

Great rivalries make for an awesome atmosphere. Coolest part of the post game was watching DMac celebrate with his team like he was still playing.

 

Both Conner and Ryle will be tough outs in the region tourney.

 

Conner struggled at the free throw line tonight and against Ryle 1-3-1 zone but defensively got after it.

 

Tanner White led Ryle with 17 points and was our player of the game. Jake Puthoff was also named to the all tourney team with Will Stuhr getting tourney MVP

Item of note: Conner missed NINE straight free throws in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Convert half of those and it's a different game coming down the stretch.

Another item of note: Ryle missed six or seven free throws in the first half as well and Will Stuhr was called for stepping on the line, whcih eliminated two points off free throws. They make half of those and it is not a different game coming down the stretch. The better team won last night. Congrats Raiders!

Finally got the chance to meet David McFarland. Told him while I was happy for his success I wasn't thrilled he took down my beloved Cougars.

 

He could not have been any nicer. I just wish he didn't make me feel so old by continually calling me "sir."

DMac is a great guy. It has been a process but he has completely changed the mentality of players in the Ryle program.
