INDIANAPOLIS -- Andy Dalton has been holding the Cincinnati Bengals offense back in the playoffs for three straight years. But there's no reason to expect a different quarterback in Cincinnati anytime soon.

This is the first year that Dalton can sign a contract extension. And the Bengals sound very open to signing him to a new deal.

"At some point here in the future, representation from our people and his people will get together and try to discuss something," Lewis said. "We feel good about what Andy has done over his first three seasons. And we hope to continue to help him and put people around him to allow him to play better and better."

^I'd offer him something in the range of 5 years, $40-45M, with about $10M-$15M in guaranteed monies.

He won't sign that. No way. I guess 100M over 6 years about 55-60 guaranteed. If he wins the Super Bowl next year he will cost much much more.

These are the NFL QB salaries for next season....Dalton is not a top 10 QB, they shouldn't pay him as such.

It doesn't matter who thinks he is Top Ten except Mike Brown. Brown is conservative. He will pay lower now rather than whet could be much bigger bucks later. See Ravens. It killed their cap issues having to pay Flacco elite status $$.

Horrible move. We know how the Bengals work, when they sign a guy to big bucks he plays no matter what which means this franchise is dead in the water until Dalton retires.

Not with Palmer. Well, he in essence said he retired, but that fooled no one.

Now I still wouldn't sign him until after the season and I could lose big bucks if he improves a lot. Because you have to sign a QB that is successful. This reaks of Flacco, but reversed. Flacco has been mid - pack in the regular season, but lights out in the playoffs (really one of the best). If Dalton gets the Bengals to the playoffs and breaks the losing trend, well, he will cost much more than he will now. I'm not betting on that, but Brown might.
