I gotta go to work Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Scott starting to get things turned around a bit at the right time. Won 3 of 4 after a horrendous start.
Sports Fan1230 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Lots of respect to Coach Listerman and his fighting Bluebirds. They made it possible for Scott senior Brody Flynn (who has Down syndrome) to score the first 2 points of the game on his Senior Night!! After the basket he turned around and played lockdown defense for the Eagles. What a night for the young man!

After the basket he turned around and played lockdown defense for the Eagles. What a night for the young man! That was very unique wonderful start to HS game. And the young man did play great D on the return trip. Buten wasn't sure what to do with the ball out front initially w/pressure D from Brody - but Scott allowed them to even score. Very nice moment.. Hats off to Scott Eagles man-to-man defense & Coach Carr. Each defender suffocated the ball all night, pressured & were very physical w/Buten in backcourt the entire game and made it very difficult on any HHS player driving to goal - altering many shots all night near rim. The only good open looks for HHS came in 4th quarter and shooter athletes were GASSED. Poor shooting night for some Birds doomed them - but all credit to Scott playing ferocious D rushing shots the entire game. The better defensive team won this game. I suspect Birds will play and shoot much better over next couple games and vs. Newport in District game.
Mattitude Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Scott appears to be heating up. Bad news for Campbell who is cooling off.
Qryche11 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Coach Carr always gets a tenacious defensive effort from his kids. Nice win Eagles and I still like Highlands to knock off Newport in Districts. Where are they held this yr by the way?

I thought it was an awesome display of class by Coach Listerman to come over and be one of the first to shake Brody's hand as Brody came out of the game. Good luck to Highlands in the district. It has been beautiful to see the love shown to this young man by Scott and all of the NKY high school athletics community. Lots of cool coaches out there that are teaching their players the most important things in life have nothing to do with a scoreboard.

Not sure where Scott/Campbell/Brossart competitive district tourney games are this year. HHS plays Newport @NCC Wed. 2/26 at 6pm. NCC follows that game. FYI - point guard B. Buten suffered 2 bloody noses attacking basket last night in Scott game and yes Houston, we have a problem this morning...swollen and "crooked" are reports I'm getting. Senior night game tonight for HHS at home 7pm vs. Lloyd and I fully suspect BB will be in lineup for this his final game. Tough little hombre...he should be very proud of how hard he's worked his game and what a complete player he has become. Not sure who is POY in 9th Region as current BGP thread debates, but I know who gets my vote as NKY MIP (Most-Improved Player) from last year to this season. That is no contest: B Buten. (my lens is slightly biased)

Glad I got to see it.
Sports Fan1230 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 How many did Ohmer have? 7. Couldn't seem to get his shots to drop.
Jack of all Trades Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I agree with Oldbird. Great moment for the kid, his family and the entire Scott community. Class act by Coach Listerman, his staff and team. Now onto the game. Focus for Scott was to get the ball out of Buten's hands as early as possible. Game is a one point difference at the end of one quarter only to see Highlands have a scoring drought in the second quarter where they trailed by 8. Scott started second half off with a basket to make lead 10 and then Highlands made a nice little run to get the deficit down to one possession. Scott defends the ball, but I would not call their defense suffocating by any stretch. The key was that HHS could not get defensive stops late and Blake Schneider seemed to be the one doing the damage in the last 2 or 3 minutes. Birds have 2 games to play before District play and they need to ramp up energy level back to where it was a few short weeks ago if they want to get to the BOKC.
Sports Fan1230 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Blake Schneider has been unstoppable as of late.. I think that's his 4th or 5th straight game with 20+ points.
