Only 1 application? Now that's hard to believe right?

Considering all the rumors I have heard and read I can tell you that this, too, is erroneous. I am not in charge of hiring nor do I have a say so in the process. I can tell you that I do know that more than 1 has applied.

my thoughts are: are they going to give equal consideration to all that apply, or is it just going through the "process" until they name someone from within?

The state of Raceland football is at an all time high and will only go higher, so I'm not sure you wanna take a chance with an assistant coach who has no previous head coaching experience. With that being said, I think you have to look outside the program first. I've heard of at least one coach with a recent state title who is interested in taking the job, obviously it's hearsay, so you take it with a grain of salt. If the rumor is true and the man is genuinely interested in the program, then you hire him. Just my opinion, and my opinions have been known to irritate others.

 

RC, I certainly agree with you on the state of the Raceland football program. From what I know and have heard actually are the same (and that's rare,lol) - that although the Rams have taken some big losses on the OL and DL lines that Raceland younger classes are good, very good. I think that from the jr. high, Frosh along with the JV teams that all combined only had 2 losses.

I also agree that although there are extremely good asst.'s on the Rams staff that the administration should take a look at who / what kind of applicants that come in from outside. A coach would be coming to 1. an excellent school system 2. Very Good talent, 3. Winning tradition and 4. Extremely large and very supportive fan base, booster club, etc. Plus...,one downfall my be certifiable insane Ram Fans like me :eek::lol2: !

I believe that although a small, 1A School that Raceland would be considered one of the two or three best jobs in our area at this time. IMO in our NEKY area, as far as the best coaching jobs are 1. Ashland, 2. Raceland and 3. Russell. Ashland hired a coach 2 yrs. ago and the very reason of this thread is that Russell has just hired their coach, lol.

There are some people talking about maybe four to five coaches in program that could possibly get the job. And the no one in the administration has even said a word about out of program coaches. But then again, we could always be surprised. Haha.

 

I have heard that Nick Saban at Alabama considered the job but although it would be a step up in pay from his 5 million per....he was going to remain at Bama. :sssh::popcorn:

Heck, I think Vanderhoof was the only Raceland guy to ever coach at Raceland, If I'm not mistaken.

 

Maynard was from Russell and previously coached at Greenup County.

Ross was from Boyd County and previously coached at Boyd County and Liberty University.

Snyder was from Ohio, I believe.

Heck, I think he was from North Carolina or somewhere.

Sammons, I guess was from Raceland, but begin coaching from EKU.

Michaels was from Lawrence County

Jones was from Russell.

 

Ram, you are correct on Snyder, when he left Raceland it was to go what he termed as "back home" to Fairland H.S. in Proctorville, OH.. Larry Heck, although I have forgotten where he was from originally was the Defensive Coordinator at Ceredo-Kenova, WVA during some of their WVA State Championship years, for several years, C-K was known as the best football in our tri state area for several years. I think that Heck was from WVA as well but not sure.

Raceland graduate also so I'm def not trolling.

 

Not going to respond to this particular post, it wasn't a quote of my post and "stirring the pot" is fun. I like to do the same every now and then. yHowever, should you be serious and/or really from Raceland, from some of your post on other threads as well as this one tend to seem that you may have a problem with a certain person or something at Raceland. That's fine if you do but you may want to just come out and say it, start a thread on it or something instead of just throwing a comment or two around on some threads. That's jmo and if I am wrong then o.k., I apologize. I was just noticing a pattern and was just a thought. Post what you want, you certainly have that right.

Mcpeek is a good coach he may have done some things he shouldn't have, but lets not forget it wasnt all that much diff then what the beloved coach Ross did. He would actually pick up out of district players and bring them to school. I don't believe raceland should hire him I'm just stating facts

Coach Ross was a great coach and is a great person that only wanted to help trouble youth, I will defend him to the end. All that looks wrong 25 years later was not wrong when it happened.

The hiring from within argument is taken out of context. When Maynard was hired, he was a head coach and was hired with the promise that when Vandhoof retired, he would get first pass on the Head Coach Job. That was not hiring from within, that was great forethought and planning for the future.

 

Shawn Johnson was very similar, he was hired and became the front funner for the Head Basketball Coach by his work ethic and maturation. Again, good preparation.

 

Who will be the next Baseball Coach? He's on staff now, and was hired partly for that purpose. He's a Head Coach that is in an assist coach's position. Good preparation.

 

Does Raceland have qualified assistant coaches on staff that could become Head Coach? Sure they do. Will they hire from within? Maybe, but I promise they will hire the best possible candidate, if that is within, or from outside, it will be the best candidate.
