Ryle 2 years ago best hitters batted .383, .350, .315, and .306 with 72 RBI between them. Last year the lead off hit .365 (16 RBI) followed by four hitters averaging over .400 with almost 150 RBI. Collins was a talented hurler and would have been a great matchup to watch.

No, not exactly. Just saying there was no garutnee AJ would get the win.What I was saying was with the emergence of Jake Lawhorn in AJ's spot in the rotation made the loss of AJ on the mound not as big as you might think.

 

I would of loved to have AJ on the mound against Ryle last year. Having AJ in the rotation last year period would of been aswesome and made that pitching squad even deeper. I'm just not willing to say AJ on the mound would of graunteed a win against Ryle last year. Ryle's top of the lineup was so much better than 2 years ago. 2 years ago AJ pitched and Cooper still lost, so why would he pitching last year be different against an even better hitting Ryle team?

 

AJ has and will be for a long time my favorite Cooper athlete period. He was such a great kid and even better athlete at any of the sports he played. This in no way was a knock on AJ by any means. Aj could have beaten Ryle, we may never know, but there also was no guarantee he would of fared any better last year than he did the year before against them.

That is a huge difference and is what we've been saying about Ryles team lst year compared to the team 2 years ago. Both really good hitting teams, but last year was far and beyond the better of the 2. Not even close imo.

Edit..... Ryle team from 2 years ago had a .452 hitter and add 13 to total RBI... moving the total to 85.

For sure Ryle's team and Coopers team are different each year. All I meant was Cooper scored 8 runs last year where they were shutout the year before. Ryle scored 12 last year where they scored 1 the year before.

 

I just know AJ is a clutch big-time athlete that can, and has, handled any pressure situation in all three sports he played. He's the same kid who hit a buzzer, leaning 3-pointer versus Conner to send the game to overtime on a game they won but had no reason winning. He's the kid who held a Ryle team to one run when he was on the mound when Ryle had a talented team including a D1 shortstop, etc..

 

All I was saying is I would have loved to have had AJ on the mound in a big game with lots of pressure as that was when the kid thrived. Of course, if I make this comment then people think I'm automatically "putting down" another kid and that's not the case.

 

I'm looking forward to watching some games where the kids should be relaxed this year.

AJ was so clutch it would of been very interesting and would of loved to see it happen last year.

 

I can tell you the 1 inning he pitched last year Corey said he threw as hard as he ever threw. We all hoped he could of went the rest of the year.

Teams have all been selected and I want to be the first to congratulate some SR's who after 4 years of hard work finally cracking the varsity squad. Jake Crail (sp) has worked his butt off since his freshman year but was always stuck by the numbers game and could never get above the JV team. This year all his hard work and never say die attitude paid off. Congrats to Jake and also Patrick Dragon and the others.

I think they like him a lot. They realize they have to work hard and he will respect them for that.

He works them hard (conditioning wise) and that set the tone for the boys which is goo.

I think the big question for Cooper this year will be the middle infield.

Who will handle the duties at 2nd and SS and will they fair ok defeinsivley.

I would think Dunn would play the majority of the time at SS. IMO 2nd base will be either Dragan or Wise.

Yes, there are 5 players that can play 2nd and SS. Dunn, Dragon, Wise, McMahan, Crail.

 

I always thought Dunn was a better 3rd and had the arm for 3rd, but he can deffinately play SS too as he did as a Sophomore.

Its sounds like Coopers pitching may have been better with a pitcher that pitched against Ryle the prior year, however was unable to pitch last year, with that kid on the mound, maybe Ryles hitters may have not been that good against him, guess no one will ever know!
