Cooper 2014

You did hear right hja1224. Workouts were not started til the kids went back in January. I personally was blown away. From what I understand, that is what Ryle does, so that was carried over to Cooper. Don't agree with it but what can you do. You do exactly what you said in regards to working on your own. That's what my boy did. That IMO is way too much of a layoff.

I will agree last years team underachived but it had a lot to do with Jared Blank playing the whole season with a broken wrist on his throwing arm that required surgery that he is still healing from and AJ Collins playing with a torn shoulder from football that required surgery after the season and prevented him from pitching or playing the OF the last few games. Nick Carr who was hotter than heck missed three weeks with a shoulder strain.

I would of loved to have had AJ on the mound as one of the pitchers versus Ryle in the district game in which Cooper lost 12-8. The year before Ryle won 1-0 when AJ pitched. You never know how the game would turn out but I would bet a lot that AJ would not give up 8 runs.

I hear the new coach didn't have Fall workouts or conditioning which Coach Beiger put a ton of time and effort in to strengthen the kids. If this is true, that is a shame. I hope the kids had the motivation to get better and work in their own.

Good luck to the Jag's and I look forward to seeing some games!!

3 Goggles, I would say McMahon would fill one of the spots for sure. Drags, Wise and Dickerson haven't stepped on the varsity field, so I just don't know. All 3 are very solid players for sure. Just don't know how they will react at the Varsity level. I would hope that since there are so many seniors that one or more of them step up the leadership role to make the move up easier on the younger players.

I would think Blake McMahon and Patrick Dragan would find themselves somewhere in the 7-9 spots in the order.

Holland looks to be in pretty good shape and I would think he would possibly be in the outfield. Hawthorn I think would be the first baseman. I forgot about Crail....he would be a nice reliever or spot starter along with a few of the other players I mentioned in another post. Love Este...just don't know if he can get in the line-up with being a one dimensional player. Should be interesting to see how things shake out. We could all be off on what will happen...

I would too, there is also Alex Holland who plays a real nice 1b and Eric Estenfelder who has nice pop in his bat (both who played varsity last year along with Blake McMahon) Also there is Jake Craile (sp) who the last couple years was just left off varsity not due to ability but simply because of the numbers game. Blake can play infield and is a pretty good pitcher when he is on.

I think a real positive for Cooper, Coach Collins isn't going to humiliate a player on the field like Krump did in the regional tourney last year or do things to impede a players self confidence. I think many coaches in the area are good game managers but teaching the mechanics of the game in another story. Most coaches don't have a true pitching program with instituted off day throwing, long toss, or able to work with different grips of the same pitch to help their players become more effective for the players arm angle and delivery. The information is out there and should be part off any high school program. The same goes with hitting, everyone teaches opposite field but taking an inside pitch the other way is as hard as pulling the outside corner pitch for success. There is only a limited part of the bat that can drive the ball and the handle isn't it.

Cooper is poised to make the region, and have a competitive and hungry players.

I believe the biggest change we will see is players will no longer be playing scared.

If they were playing scared under Beiger then I hope they aren't going to college to play ball. I understand kids handle things differently but college coaches don't care about your feelings.

It wasn't scared in that manner. It was the fact that some would be pulled for a single mistake while others wouldn't.

So the majority of the players were always looking over their shoulder.

Should never feel like that because when you do http is when errors occur.

There are physical mistakes and mental mistakes.

There are physical mistakes and mental mistakes.

Very true.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, I'm just stating how it was.

In regards to the mound comment, the only thing I would say is that the Raider team hitting that year compared to the one this past year were not even close to being as good. JMO!

What does that have to do with It?

Rocky..He made a comment within the thread. That's what it has to do with it. Did you not read the thread how a pitcher the year before done well against them and wouldn't give up a certain amount of runs? With that being said, I felt last years hitting was much better.

Its sounds like Coopers pitching may have been better with a pitcher that pitched against Ryle the prior year, however was unable to pitch last year, with that kid on the mound, maybe Ryles hitters may have not been that good against him, guess no one will ever know!

The year he referred to also had a pretty good hitting lineup..There is really no way to determine that what who would do what I guess..

Cooper had a good pitching staff last year. What they were missing was AJ Collins who couldn't pitch due to a shoulder injury. With that said, Jake Lawhorn who the year before was used mostly as a relief pitcher but last year due to no AJ on the mound Jake became a starter the entire year and was one of the best pitchers on the staff that included Hunter Dunn and Collin Smith and Colin Hathorn.

With that said, I would have loved to have AJ on the mound because when he has his knuckle ball working along with his fast ball he can be tough to hit. But I don't think with the big time emergence of Jake Lawhorn last year as a starter they had much if any of a drop off as far as pitching goes.

Also with what Jimmy has said, two years ago Ryle wasnt as good of a hitting team as last year with the emergence of Forbes and Baughman being on fire all season etc. as well as some other players who really stepped up last year.

2 totally different teams IMO.
