Purple, I think I like your style. Bottom line there are coaches that have been fired, and those that are going to be fired. There is just no escaping it at any level. If you do then you are special, very special!. Bottom line at the end of the day it about WINNING! and nothing else. If you believe any different then you need to do something else. You can be the best teacher in the District, but if you do not WIN and WIN big, and do not disrupt the political alliances that hurt little Johnny that needs to play right guard, but wants to run the rocks feelings then you may be able to get tenure. If not you are in the coaching carousel, and may never get out. The day of any coach being around long enough to get tenure today.

And this is wrong for a high schools football coach. There are still too many variables you can't control for this to be true but unfortunately it is turning out to more and more like what you are saying. Ask coach Browne.

This.

Which is why I laugh at those admins who get on the, "Now, remember. You are a teacher 1st."

...Ok.

It's amazing the number of coaches I know who have had meetings with their principal and super about that "lesser important" job, but have yet to meet with them about the "important one".

Doyle, it also impressive when those meetings take place and the AD never was an athlete and says this is a business decision. You have to play Team A - #1, Team C - #3, and Team D #5, not to mention your games where you play two classes above, and by the way you need to WIN the district. Coach - why do we have to play this schedule - We have to fund 13 sports so you have to play the schools that will pay us to play them. This is starting to sound very familiar to a lot of coaches, or x coaches.

When called out I answer. If it's thin skinned and too touchy then so be it. You asked me questions, I answered. If you can't handle the answers then don't ask me questions. Simple process.

#FatJason you should take that as a compliment he called you thin.

Not excusing it one way or another, but isn't this simply the by-product of a society that values sports more than education?

Possibly.

But, I don't really know of anyone that truly values sports over education when it gets down to it in terms of what you need in this life to succeed. Which also leads me to my belief that the education and classrooms outside of a school building are just as (if not more) valuable than the ones inside it.

But, thats our society. We aren't changing. CBS isnt ever going to replace SEC football on Saturday's in the fall with academic meets b/t those schools.

I think we are a society that values the entertainment aspect of of athletics moreso than academics. That goes without saying.

I also think that there are those who have figured out that you can place a very high value on both, without jeapordizing the other.

Texas catches a lot of flack for their athletic prowess, in particular football, across the nation. I'd be interested in knowing the numbers how we compare to them academically.

I think there are a lot of schools who have figured out that you can go all out on both in terms of resources and have succeeded doing so....and, that ticks a lot of people off.

Possibly.

Interpretation is usually truer than perception though less valued............????

Highlands

Beechwood

and Bowling Green

quickly come to mind as public districts that put full resources into both.

The less I worry about perception, the better my interpretation...................I cant stand it when perception stands in the way of progress.
