First game I attended all year for the 'dogs, if you call it a game. It was over way early. 50-10 3:00 left in 2nd quarter. Not much you can say, running clock the whole 2nd half. Holmes can really shoot if you don't guard them. One of those that shouldn't be played but has to for seeding.

One thing did come up in the game that you official folks may know.

Beedle drove to the hoop, made the shot and was fouled. When he went to the line they awarded him 2 shots. After he made the first free throw the officials realized the mistake and waved off the free throw, and started over with him at the line shooting one. He missed, not that it mattered, but did they do that because it was correctable? Or should they have just said he h made the one Tigers ball, which seemed to me at the time to make sense. However after thinking about it, if he would have missed the ball would probably just rolled on the floor of whoever caught it would have thrown it to the ref. So it probably was correct. I don't know the rule , though, but I know someone does on here.

If he made the one foul shot he should have been awarded and then they realized he should not get a 2nd I don't see why they started over. Nothing was gained. I would think they would have simply awarded the ball out of bounds to the other team.

I'd have to look that one up to see if I'm wrong.

That was my original thought.

My guess and it's only a guess, since the stripes awarded two free throws, neither team was ready to rebound the ball in case of a miss and thus they made the shooter, shoot again!

That is the only thing that makes any sense of the call! :idunno:

Here's what happened...

After Bolden made the first FT, they started to award him another FT. Holmes coaching staff asked if the basket was good (when he got fouled). Ref came over to the scorer's table and his exact words were "Basket is good. No free throw (the one he had just shot). Shooting 1 for the and one."

Your logic could be correct. Problem is that I don't think the rulebook supports their actions. Again, I'll have to check. I could be wrong. CE is one of those that is odd on how it's handled and it's also rare.

Who officiated?

No harm in this game, obviously, but in a close one, they need to be right, if they weren't. I still don't know if they were. The game was so out of hand and pretty boring but you would have thought that they one of the coaches or players would have caught it. Never seen it before.

My only question is why did, Holmes still have starters playing into the third quarter? Score was 69-18 when they came out. Also, why didn't Beechwood pull starters until 3 minutes left in the game? Game was never in doubt in the second half. I think silly on both parts.

I was not there. Report I received if any of these facts are incorrect.

Not as easy as it sounds. They have't played a lot lately so Coach Booher probably wants to get them some run to keep in a rhythm.

No problem with BW playing their starters.

Holmes pulled starters mid to late 2nd quarter, really never had all 5 starters after first 4 minutes on the floor at one time.. Played first two minutes of 2nd half. They didn't play half the game. It didn't matter their 2nd and 3rd team was killing their starters. Holmes did press until half. in the second half they trapped the Tigers in half court. Beechwood had a bazillion turnovers. I know it seems they poured it on but they really didn't. I imagine another case is that Holmes has had games where they got disinterested after building big leads and played really sloppy. Tonight not the case.

Holmes subbed freely throughout. Look at the starters mins. Bolden (18 mins), McClendon (17 mins), Chames/Housely (16 mins), Hill (14 mins). Bolden and McClendon played the most out of the starters and probably 5-6 mins of that time came with them being the only or one of two starters in the game.

Holmes wasn't running the score up if that's what you're getting at. 14 players played 6 or minutes.

Beechwood left their starters in to try and run offense against Holmes' reserves. Nothing wrong with that IMO. They really struggled to run any of their sets against Holmes' starters so leaving them in gave them an opportunity to get more practice. Nothing against Beechwood, but Holmes bench players provide much better competition than what the starters probably see in an every day practice.

Holmes reserves outscored their starters by 10-15 in the second half. Many of the reserves played minutes in the first half. Bottom line, in these seed games, just like football district games, what do you do? I know when Holmes plays Highlands and CCH in football it is usually over in the first quarter and those teams play their starters about half the game. It is what it is. Most coaches are not going to run the score up and Booher didn't.
