February 4, 201412 yr I do too, darter didn't just pop up. If it's here it's been here for decades and decades or longer and it survived the lake at higher levels for nearly 50 years. I'd like to know their population in the river then. I still think it's a load of manure.
February 4, 201412 yr Several miles of shoreline shorter with lower lake, I know it doesn't seem so but there are tributaries that are not navigable now that have miles and miles of boating and fishing available with the higher lake level. Also and probably more important is the perception of vacationers from up north that the lake is down versus the perception that it is back up. The extra 15 to 20 percent increase in tourist really has an effect on the region, those higher number help push many small businesses from break even to profitable and being able to grow. The ones that weren't profitable with lower tourism have already closed up. Gotcha. That seems like it's probably the biggest problem in the lower-lake scenario.

I'm not saying I necessarily disagree that I think the minnow is really the issue....but the simple fact that Mitch is the one going and speaking out about it is going to lose a lot of voters.

February 7, 201412 yr Why? Mitch isn't particularly known for making friends "across the aisle". Add to that the fact that he's saying, "screw what they think about this endangered species - raise the lake", and I don't think he's going to be getting the support of many folks who lean left in any particular manner. Again, I'm not so sure this really is about the duskytail darter, but I also think having Mitch McConnell be the messenger on this one is not the greatest of moves.

I don't see a Senator from Utah giving a rip however...McConnell and Paul are our Senators and if they don't stand up for this who will?

But frankly....I think Paul should be your pony in this situation. I think he gets this further because he doesn't have the track record of disregarding the environment that McConnell does.
