Jimmy Dykes and his base line reporting

Just a comment that I know will be wildly unpopular on here but I don't mind D. Vitale at all. Yes, I can see and know how he can go on but I don't mind it for the reason that Vitale is sincere, he honesty loves the game and especially loves the kids / players and promotes them as well as the coaches.

I don't think that espn does this anymore but several years ago they filmed / aired some footage of Vitale at a basketball camp and him giving a speech to a group of high school basketball players at a camp. The man was great, he spoke to them not only on basketball but on school, getting an education, how they carry themselves (with respect, class). So, when he goes on one of his rants it doesn't bother me.

Now, as for Walton, this guy is still oe of the greatest college bb players that I have ever watched but that's where my admiration stops. Walton, after leaving UCLA took off (literally, no one knew where he was) - had head off into the wilderness or something. I don't know what that guy is smoking but.... Walton returned and for years after, most of his time in the NBA and after criticized the press, refused to talk to them, etc.. Now he is a commentator, wanting respect.

Dykes is terrible. ESPN has several guys that do basketball that are just terrible.

Dykes - Bob Knight and I hate Digger Phelps.

The next time Digger makes an insightful comment will be the first.

I'm no fan of Walton, he went to UCLA and as a commentator he blows, but his first 2 years in the NBA he spent injured, as he did most of his career. He then lead the Trail Blazers to the title in 77, named finals MVP, was the league MVP in 78, and won the Sixth Man award with the Celtics in 86. He's still the only player to win all three awards. The guy is a class A jerk, IMO, but he has a pretty good basis to critique college and pro players.
