Has the Bengal's Window Closed?

Featured Replies

As long as the Bengals keep drafting like they have been the last few years the window will always be unlocked.

The thing that gets lost is that this isn't the 1990's Bengals front office. Tobin does a GREAT job at grading players to fit the Bengals needs.

I can't imagine that a 30 year old corner coming back from Achille's repair is going to be anywhere near the level of what this team needs.

I agree but read that he's expected to be ready for training camp a while back. Haven't heard much lately.

I think Marvin has had a lot more control the last few years too.

Someone different is definitely picking the talent the last few years and whoever it is, is the key to the Bengals future.

I forgot to mention another thing in the Bengals favor........Steelers and Ravens and Browns are in a "down" period right now. While they certainly can rebound next year it is not like they are favored or expected to. That could lead to another Division Championship and a Home game although that did not matter much this year.

I am not as optimistic. The way the Steelers finished scares me, the Ravens are one year removed from the Super Bowl and the Browns have a lot of young talent, a lot of early draft picks, and a QB that was hot before he got hurt.

With Zimmer leaving, the window has officially been nailed shut.

Shut? Nope, is it opening anymore since Marvin is back? Probably not. However for all the people who wanted Zimmer as head coach, how do we know we would have been better and not worst? Shoot Marvin Lewis had more under his belt as a top DC in the league than Zim and Marvin has proved as a head coach that even though he was a great DC he is very bad at clock management and in big games. We have no idea how Zim will be as a head coach. Not to mention if he was the head coach, that means we still lose him as the DC and calling plays and it would have been Guether as the DC still even under Zim.

I am very happy for Zim but honestly if the Bengals fired Marvin the coach I would have wanted promoted to head coach if they hired from within would have been Hue. The guy I would have loved to have if they got rid of Marvin though would have been Josh McDaniels.

^^^ Josh Mcdaniels?!?!? Wow.

Yep! Look at the current make up of that Denver team, a lot of those players he drafted. Now the guy screwed up big time though by trying to trade for Matt Cassell and making his QB Cutler mad and wanting out. The guy had to have Kyle Orton as his starting QB when he was the head coach.

Not to mention I like the fact that he has had head coaching experience now, and probably has learned from some of those mistakes. Then not only that he has had a chance to go back to New England to really gain even more insight on exactly how a team should be run. Lets not forget even Bill Belicheck got fired once, and it took him getting a new job and Tom Brady before he became known as now one of the best coaches. I think with the current makeup of this team it would have been good to hire someone from the outside. Someone with an offensive mind that knows how a team should be run and does have head coaching experience. Someone that could potentially take this team to the next step.

Didn't he trade up to draft Tim Tebow?

Wow

Didn't he trade up to draft Tim Tebow?

Wow

Yes he did and did he ever get a chance to really coach him a the head coach like he planned on using him? No he didn't. However once again that is another reason why I would want him, because he has been a head coach and definitely made some mistakes. So if the Bengals got him you would think he wouldn't make some of those same mistakes twice.

I want a guy who could potentially get them to take the next step, and with the current talent in place I believe he could.

And what exactly has Josh McDaniels ever done to prove he could get them to the next level? Hasn't the Broncos done better once he was fired?

With a lot of the same players he drafted. Which by the way the Broncos were doing pretty bad after he got fired until they started to start Tebow a guy he drafted haha. Then now they obviously have Peyton which enough said there.

Just like what has Zimmer done to prove he could have. As we know windows in the NFL do close quick. I rather have taken a chance at a guy who has been a head coach and has got to learn at what to do and what probably shouldn't do. Rather than a guy who is learning on the job. Obviously it would be great to get like a very high profile head coach with lots of success and experience. We know that would not happen with Mike Brown, so Josh McDaniels is a realistic guy who I think would have been a good one.

You again showed your arse.

You just said the Broncos did a lot better with the players he drafted. Then if he was such a great coach then why couldn't he win with them?

I think you just proved my case.
