Well I certainly don't consider it sexist, so therefore hope you don't consider my response sexist. I do agree with your statement and I think it goes back to the state of the game. The boys game has gotten to be a foot race, run,dunk, dribble drive etc so therefore shooting from all ranges has suffered. The girls high school game is still about fundamentals of which shooting from outside is critical. IMO alot of the girls college teams are moving toward the running game as well but even at the collegiate level the girls still need to shoot well.

Anderson County hasn't loaded their stats onto the riherds scoreboard. Any idea of what Cann's shooting percentage is?

Concerning Cann these numbers are not official but she is about a career 40 per cent shooter from 3 point rang and 48 per cent from 2 point field goals. These numbers do not include this season but she seems to be shooting real well as well as extending her range as teams push her further outside. I I will try to find season stats if I can. She is near 300 3,s for her career right now and became all time AC career leader a freshman.

Very impressive, could be the best player KY has ever produced by the sounds of it and that says a lot.

 

Now this be an old tale, but Boley is the same age as my daughter. A couple years back (think it was the 6th grade year), we were playing in the AAU state in Lexington. We were getting ready to play Erin's team and I recall a coach telling me how they played defense against her team. His answer was "We played a triangle and two, with the triangle on her!...and she still had something like 28 of her team's 35 points" Back then, she was like a 5'9" PG in the 6th grade! What were we supposed to do with that!!!!!

 

She didn't have her best game against us. Think she only had like 19 with 5 3's. WE SHUT HER DOWN!!!:lol2:. But two other players played well against us and they ended up beating us by like 15-18 and went on to win state.

 

She is a great player and I really want to see her play before she graduates.

I hope this doesn't come off sexist in any way but I've always felt women shoot 3 's a lot better and more consistent than their male counterparts. I don't know why that is, I just always thought this from watching both for years. It's just like in golf, I always thought women always shot the ball much straighter off the tee than men. Just my personal opinion, I have zero credibility or proof in any of these cases lol.

It's very hard to win with just one player, but if that player makes others around her better than you have a shot to get to Diddle. You can't win with just one star player in the 7th region IMO.

 

That being said, when Daijai Ruffin is at her best SHA will be hard to beat because she has other players around her that can keep the defense honest. Daijai is getting double and triple teamed and has learned she can't get it done by herself. Other players are now involved making it difficult to stop SHA on offense. She's averaging a double/double (pts/rebounds) and is now getting multiple assists by kicking out to open player or hitting the cutters. Our team average from the 3 point line is now 41.9% (54-129). Our starting 3 guards are 52%, 38.7%, and 44.4% from the three.

 

Daijai makes the whole team better along with her superior basketball skills. She gets my vote.

 

Senior Makenzie Cann is having a really good year for Anderson County. Being the tallest player on a team of guards she is asked to do alot. She may be running the point on offense and guarding the post on defense. She has had stretches of just ridiculous individual performances when necessary but her biggest asset is making her team better, which is what matters most.

That was the first gam of the year. She's learned from it. Look at Samsel highlights thread and watch the highlights from Naples. Many of the 3's were assists from Daijai kicking it out. Samsel went 7-12 in the three game stretch from the three because of it.

Wow, I also hope to see her play before she graduates. When she does, with UK's emergence I. Women's BBall I hope she stays home and goes to Lexington, what a huge boost that would be for the program.

Is there any chance that Assumption with 6'6" Nora Kiesler (sp) can make it to Diddle? Seventh Region is toiugh to win.
