Last time I personally saw a "sold out" sign was in 2004/2005 season when Holmes played at Covcath.

Bovard, Tierney, Jacobs v Hill, Jefferson, Rice, Edmondson...Edmondson lit it up the first half with Holmes leading then didn't touch the ball 2nd half. Covcath wins by 2.

That game was in January 2006.

Nate killed it from the corner. One trick pony though. Couldnt score if not wide open.

I remember that game well!!

One of the better 9th region games I've witnessed. I believe Jacobs or Votel had the game winner that game?

1/15/2005...Lexi Brown's senior year. Was the start of a great rivalry between the two sophomore classes. Holmes went to state that year. Covcath the year you're talking about. Holmes beat Covcath 54-51 at Holmes that year then Greg Rice got kicked off the team after the Highlands game. Covcath beat Holmes 66-47 in the district finals then Newcath 61-50 in the region championship at Ryle.

Wow. Thought it was after Votel left.

Nope...Votel had the game winner at Holmes in the district championship that year too. I was a junior that year so remember both games very well. :lol2:

Covcath went on to get upset by Conner in the region tourney and Holmes beat Conner in the region finals at Conner with Lexi Brown capping the game off with a big two hand dunk. 6'6 but it was either his 1st or 2nd of the year.

Scrappy Bobcats fall in Holiday title game

SARASOTA — North Port used its size and range to bug a fundamentally sound opponent, Covington Catholic of Kentucky, on Monday night in the finals of the Suncoast Holiday Classic at Riverview High.

They grabbed rebounds, made layups and putbacks and kept Covington star Nick Ruthsatz out of the lanes and under control.

Then the fourth quarter swung around.

Covington’s 1-3-1 zone worked to a tee and North Port’s players couldn’t find the basket from any range, and Covington went on to win 65-43 in front of about 250 fans, nearly half of them from Kentucky.

Thanks; some great shots of the game. I have to admit, I like those TarHeel-esque uniforms for North Port.

Three favorite pics: a) everyone at the court, including Ruth, seemingly pointing at #21 in white. Funny. b) while I'm sure CVH won't love it, the shot of him getting ripped from behind is a cool picture. c) The one of Ruth driving to the rack and the two long North Port guys contesting was perfectly framed. Good stuff.

Cov Cath very impressive with closing out the tournament as Champions. Sarasota showed it's class with Dick Vitale sitting at half court and presenting the Championship trophy. Lot of people talking about the style of Kentucky basketball vs. Florida. It's going to be a war when the 9th region rolls around, wish I could be there.

Congratulations to the Colonels and hope that they enjoyed there winter vacation.

Indeed the staff at Riverview couldn't have been nicer and the kids had a ball and while this was a business trip, they had fun too!

BTW for those who don't know, Riverview was 8-2 prior to the CovCath game and was (at least what I was told) ranked 7th in the state in the largest division (8) in Fla basketball. North Port was 12-1 going into the CovCath game and is in the second largest division (7) in the state and was told they were ranked alsol

Riverview has between 2,800 and 3,000 students enrolled in school and North Port has between 2,500 and 2,600 enrolled.

Also the gym had a college floor which is much bigger than a HS floor.

10 feet longer

Were the baskets also 10ft high?

Were the baskets also 10ft high?

Sorry, I should have included that information for those less than knowledgeable basketball fans! Yes the baskets were 10ft high! :ohbrother:
