Mooney is actually in Youngstown and I DID assume it was that team until earlier this week.

Yes, meant to say Youngstown not Toledo. I remember well the CovCath-Mooney football game from 08...

I thought this was Boom Boom Mancini's Mooney.

......

First time I've seen Bob Romes not be the only guy in the barn wearing shorts. Sarasota suits him.

COVINGTON CATHOLIC 57, CARDINAL MOONEY 38

Cardinal Mooney had a tough afternoon shooting the ball, particularly from long range, and lost to Covington, which is undefeated and ranked 18th in Kentucky.

The Cougars, winners of last year’s Suncoast tournament, shot 22 percent from 3-point range and 37 percent overall.

Leading scorer Ryan McMahon and point guard Justin Najmy struggled. McMahon had 10 points on 4 of 16 shooting and Najmy five points on 2 of 9 shooting.

“I got a lot of looks. I just had to knock them down,” McMahon said. “I should’ve taken it to the basket more.”

Stars of the game for CovCath against Mooney were Parker Keller and the CovCath bench.

The starters got into early foul trouble and at one point in the 2nd quarter only one CovCath starter was in the game.

While Keller only scored 5 points in the game, he was in the face of his man all night long, making the Mooney score keeper inquirer of me, does CovCath play this type of "D" all the time? He told me they just don't see that kind of "D" in Fl.

CovCath next plays the host school Riverview HS (enrollment 2,800) with the tip-off coming at 7:30pm tonight.
