How about the Highlands BB community? Its clear they are undermanned this year and went through a 4 yr period where they struggled offensively, partly to the coaching style and partly to the personnell. Lets not forget these are HS kids and anytime You see a Team with low expectations show improvement they should simply be commended. I would bet You $100 if Listerman had been given the progra 4 yrs ago with the Kowolonek/Grubbs/Lother/Grote/Waton group we wouldnt even be talking about their inability to score points. Not to menotion u would probably see True, Ramey, Hope, Feggins, Urlage, Hoge, (a starting 5 in there possibly) in uniform. But hey, credit the playera that are there bustin their tales in practice each day hoping to get better and possibly knock off a top 10 Team.

The essence of high school athletics - showing up when you're struggling and continually trying to get better.

Easy to show up when you win all of the time.

Your disdain for the program is clearly obvious. Perhaps Coach Listerman will get the program back in order to your satisfaction. Kids played hard, competed and probably played their best game of the year, considering it was only their 4th.

Wow. You, too, are a champion jumper with that conclusion.

Disdain? Based on what? Me pointing out they can't score? Come on.

HHS being good again would be very good for the 9th.

You guys are confusing me not getting excited about them playing hard instead of scoring with me somehow having "disdain."

I agree. Not sure why one gets slammed whenever mentioning any issue with the Highlands Boys basketball program. God help you if you say anything but they're fine young men and they try hard...

Hell, the post he quoted was me saying how much I appreciate kids that show up and bust their hump every day despite the season not going well.

A "champion jumper" that is funny right there. You know nothing about me obviously based upon that comment. You and Malachi always want to talk about not scoring and my question to you two is can they not score or do they not score? Remember they have only been on the court for 4 games and about 2 weeks full time. Unfortunately it takes a little time to get your legs back underneath you. To Malachi, this is not 1979 through the mid 1980's at HHS where they had basketball only players that were supported by members of other sports. They also do not have anyone on the roster with a zip code other than 41075 which was certainly present back then.

The basketball program is a work in progress and they certainly have the right man for the job in Kevin Listerman. JB did not turn the baseball team around in his first season, but they are certainly a top team now and will be for the foreseeable future. The difference is he has some baseball only kids that are supported by players from other sports. Positive attitudes will go a long way in making this program better in the future, but it requires hard work and dedication to get that done. Rome was not built in a day and Highlands is not going to be a regional powerhouse this year, but they are headed in the right direction.

But....what did I say to show "disdain?"

They can't score well enough? That's disdain these days?

Coach L may be the right guy. Hope he is. If he can get some excitement going (a la Coach Baioni) maybe he can get some of the football players to take some time off and play b-ball.

I'm not commenting on the future, though, when making my posts. I'm saying SIMPLY that playing hard is nice but THIS TEAM had better figure out how to score. We'll talk about the future in the future.

Back to the game.

Brossart seemed to go cold in the 2nd half against the Birds. They only mustered 3 points in the 3rd qtr and 80% of their points in the 4th were from the FT line. This has to be a concern for Coach Code especially considering they had a clear size/experience advantage against the Birds on the blocks.

Highlands only gives up an average of 53 points per game. While I agree that their point production may not be setting any records, their defensive pressure creates an atmosphere for low scoring games. To Q's point, they held Brossart to only a handful of points from the field in the second half. Several of Brossarts offensive possessions took well over a minute to execute. We all know fans like to see the run and gun games, but as I've heard before "offense sells the tickets and defense wins the games". Give Highlands some time, they will be fine. Scrappy undersized bunch that did a good job of disrupting Brossart's flow.
