Scott County has a major issue at PG. Rumor has it that Gilbert will play that role. That will be interesting to see how that plays out. That is not his natural position and might take away some of his offense. Teddy Ware is a spot shooter and not much else. If Gilbert struggles to score, Scott County will struggle to score.

Trent Gilbert (small 2G with an automatic jumper), Teddy Ware (kid who came from Henry Clay and is a top 25 in the 11th type), the longer Martini kid who started much of last year. I'd even argue that right now, Gilbert and Ware have bigger roles than Raekwon Long.

 

Dylan Portwood, Seth Crank, and Tay Guyn are some other kids to keep an eye on. Guyn was the only freshman on the varsity roster last year, and I don't know how far away he is in his development, but if he keeps working and keeps up with his projected development, everyone in the region will be well aware of him by his Senior year if I were guessing.

Apologies if I named the wrong one. If I recall correctly, there are two brothers, one that played on the State Championship team in 2007 and a younger brother who was in the program after his brother had graduated. May be wrong on that though.

You are right. Tyler played on the '07 championship team as a Junior i believe and Dylan his younger brother is a Senior. Not sure if he is playing this year, but he played last year. I don't think he's 20, but he's definitely not 18.

Just finished watching the broadcast from the link...first off, nice job by the Scott Co guys.

 

A few thoughts:

 

- Not that this is gonna come off as a surprise, but Bolden is STILL really good. The Scott Co guys couldn't believe some of the step back 3's he was hitting. Did a nice job scoring at all 3 levels.

 

- Markel McClendon is going to be a problem for opposing teams defensively. His quickness makes him tough to get by.

 

- Quinton Chames actually finished with 22...not 19. He had two oop dunks that were nasty and really took it to the 7 footer, scoring over him several times while also scoring two and one's late in the game to bring Holmes back from down 2 to up 9.

 

- Speaking of Raekwon Long, he has a LONG ways to go. Really struggled with Holmes quickness and would have probably only played 10 minutes had it been a real game. His first basket came on a dunk with 2 minutes left after he had picked up his 6th foul.

 

- Trent Gilbert will put up some serious numbers this year for SC...he finished with 25 and can really stroke it from outside.

 

- I really like the Martini kid for SC as well. Not very athletic but did block a Chames dunk attempt and is the "blue collar" work horse that SC will need this year in the 11th.

 

- Teddy Ware is a nice addition for SC. Good looking jumper and strong with the ball.

 

-Overall, Holmes is going to be tough to beat this year. If not for them subbing in some kids with an 11 pt lead in the first quarter, who probably won't play much, Holmes busts the game open as SC was really struggling against Holmes' starters. SC closed the quarter on a 15-4 run.

Bolden 25, Chames 22, McClendon 13, Glover 6, Housely 3

 

Scoring for Scott Co:

Gilbert 25, Ware 13, Martini 11, Hines Jones 4

He turned 19 this past Sept from what I remember. He used to play against my son who graduated last year. So essentially you have a kid playing HS ball who is going on 20. Wow

I only had the totals of the ones listed above...that's the only thing I had as well as the Scott Co broadcast guys.

Which is within the KHSAA age rules. Blame the rules, not the kid...

It will be interesting to see if Matt Murray can handle the bulk of the PG minutes this year so that Gilbert can play the 2 and focus on scoring.

He is better off the catch and shoot than he is off the dribble pull up.
