I was having a conversation last night and the topic of MPH came up. He asked what I thought the average varsity pitcher threw.

 

Kirsten Allen was supposedly around 62 so I guessed average would be about 50ish.

I would say that's close for an Avg...and from 43 feet. There are some that are really a modified slow pitch and there are some that can really bring it! Actually, one of the tough things for my girls is going back and forth with speeds everyday. We actually hit the faster pitchers better, which is a good thing in the end. But it drives me crazy to watch us swing like cartoon characters at the pitches thrown by the girls that do not have very much velocity! We don't adjust well! I think that is because most play competitive summer ball and are used to seeing the higher speeds game after game.

In Region 2 I would say our avg is 56-57. We have few that are 57-59. My daughter is throwing 60-62.

As an average I'd say 55 . That means an equal number throwing 56-62 as there is throwing 48-54 . Alot depends on what area you are sampling . Western Ky > Eastern Ky .

I would say in the 9th region tourney last year you had 8 of the top 9 pitchers in the region missing only Ryle's pitcher (Crupler?)

 

If I had to guess the avg speed there was around 55 to 56 maybe 57. Smith, Knotts, Simms and maybe Butts threw harder but not sure how hard they throw.

 

How hard a pitcher can throw and how hard she pitches is different of course.

 

They avg D1 pitcher is probably 62 to 64 plus. The top dogs have girls 68 plus but they are flew and far between.

Pitchers work very hard as do most their parents...a mile here or there matters...if I said Sally throws 60 and her parents thinks she throws 62 that would be a slap in the face in most cases.

Gotcha. My daughter was a CFer so I never had to go through that.
