Home made bourbon (Against the law - updated thread title)

Fire Inside

We are one of the few countries where you can't distill for your own purposes.

You can get a permit from the ATF to produce ethanol for your farm. Even then it is illegal to drink.

There is a big push to get it changed to match beer and wine regulations.

The scare tactics on shine are just that, scare tactics.

Legal way to make Bourbon at home...

But 55 gallons of LEGAL Moonshine at liquor store

Place in an charred oak barrel and seal barrel.

Lay barrel on it's side and rotate a quarter turn every month or so.

Open in Seven Years and ENJOY!!!

You will not get anything that tastes like bourbon by using Everclear or anything that high in alchohal. Those are neutral spirits and have no flavor.

Anything distilled at higher than 160 proof cannot be called whiskey.

Your whiskey should be dilluted and barreled between 115-125 proof.

Brother, you can make 200 gallons of your own wine or beer for personal consumption, but if you distill bourbon (or any other spirit for that matter) without a permit or license, or even own a still for making it, it is a fairly hefty criminal offense.

Unless your doing it for a "reality" show. :D

If someone were to make bourbon in small batches and consume it on their own and somehow get caught, I wonder how far prosecutors would even take the case? May just have your supplies and equipment confiscated and fined and that is it.

That's why I said use Moonshine and not Everclear...good Moonshine does have flavor and is essentially the same as what goes into the barrels at the distillers. Most legal Moonshine that I have seen is in the 95 to 110 proof range.
