Region 1

McCracken County is in their inaugural season and has encountered a lot already this season. The first couple of weeks did not start off well for Mustangs losing their first two games. The Mustangs captured their first win in week three and their first ever district title in week nine with a win over Henderson County. The question McCracken County has right now, will they enjoy their first regional title this year?

 

Most notable contenders are district foe Henderson County, Meade County, and Central Hardin. With Meade County landing the district title and one seed with a decisive 34-11 win over Central Hardin few weeks ago. Meade County is hoping that they learned from their tough loss last season in the 2nd round. Meade County would like to think their experience of having played in tough playoff games will be enough to take the next step.

Region 2

Last season the Butler Bears lost a in the regional final to the eventual 6A runner –up Pleasure Ridge Park, the Bears have had revenge on their minds all season. But the 28-3 win this season over Please Ridge Park hasn’t satisfied the Butler Bears they want to reach the 6A finals and believe they have a chance with this year as the have watch The Big Four beat each other up the last few weeks of the season.

 

Simon Kenton has made claim to be the best 6A team in NKY as they finished the regular season 10-0 and looking to return to the State Finals a place they haven’t been since their 2008 when the fell to Trinity.

 

Campbell County finished the season with a 7-3 record and made claim to the 2 seed in the playoffs. Dixie also finished at 7-3 and looking for a rematch with Simon Kenton in the second round as they played within 5 points of Simon Kenton during the season.

Region 3

 

District 5 was looking for someone all season to step up and take control. It took to the final week for Ballard to claim the title through the tie breaker. The Bruins finish the season 5-5 and a comeback win over Bryan Station. The Bruins have had a tough time this season. The question has this season tough battles prepared them enough to make a run at the regional title.

 

This season District 4 has been very interesting this season as Male has stepped to the front of the pack. Male defeated both Trinity and Saint Xavier this season to take the district crown. Male is trying to make a return to the state finals their last appearance was in 2010 when the lost to Trinity.

 

Trinity this season comes into the playoffs in an unfamiliar place, not since 2004 has the Rocks lost to a Kentucky Public school. Also not since 2009 has Trinity entered the playoffs with more than 1 loss, this season the Rocks enter the playoffs with a losing record. Trinity ended the season dropping their last 2 games.

 

Manual comes into the playoffs with a big win over Male and lost to both Trinity and Saint Xavier by a total of nine points. The Crimsons are hoping that the can come off the pace and steal the regional title.

Saint Xavier ends the season with a two game win streaks with wins over Manual and Cincinnati Saint Xavier. Could the Tigers be peaking at the right time?

 

Projected Regional Final: Trinity 21, Male 17

 

Region 4

Scott County was 8 minutes from defeating Trinity last season in the semi-finals and a return trip the Finals. That loss was a tough loss to swallow for Coach Jim McKee and his Cardinals. This year Scott County cruised to a perfect 10-0 records. Biggest question for Scott County did their schedule prepare the for the post season. With the way the Cardinals handle the Lexington schools is there anyone to challenge for the regional crown?

 

Others that may make a regional final appearance Bryan Station who ended the season with a tough loss to Ballard. Henry Clay appeared to be second best in the central Kentucky area in 6A but Bryan Station stepped up and defeated the Blue Devils in week 9.

One thing is for sure, this will be the most interesting 6A playoff ever.

I agree, everyone in 6A is thinking, "So, you're telling me there's a chance".

 

 

Track Record says that the safest bet is to go with the statistical numbers over a long period of time . . . While each year and team are mutually exclusive, someone still has to beat Trinity. Until this has been accomplished, everyone else is playing for 2nd place.....

This playoff in 6A is as wide open as ever, with several teams having a legit chance to win the title. I think the preview is right on and hope to see that championship game- only with the point totals reversed.

I still think McCracken will play in the finals.

Ram, Concise and well written. I am a Trinity guy and they have the talent to TAKE STATE

with a 9-5 record. I feel this staff understands the squad's shortcomings. It may be a 50/50 proposition each week after round one.

In pursuit of full disclosure, I did not write this preview, it was prepared by the BGP Ranking staff.

 

However, I agree with you, Trinity has the talent and definitely has the experience and history to win the State Championship again. I do feel they are the most vulnerable that they have been in some time. But, the football fan in me hopes that has something to do with other programs working to compete with the Rocks.

Fair statement. #50 Pritchard? got knocked out on one of the last plays against Henderson. He is a key defensive player and is lost for the playoffs. It will be tough to get to the semis but these kids can do it!
