BOZICH | Hurtt's Actions Contradict Louisville Culture of Compliance

I'll ask the question in a more direct way....Do the UofL fans on here have any issue with the fact that they are employing a man who has been found guilty of cheating and lying to "authorities" about it?

I'm not crazy about it, but I also think the Miami investigation was a complete disaster and I'm perfectly prepared to call the whole thing into question.

Bert's post addresses this, but he did lie about it while employed at UofL. That's the big issue I have with him remaining on staff. Not sure how they (Jurich) can justify keeping someone who while under employment has been found to be dishonest and untrustworthy.

Obviously he justified it by saying he doesn't believe what the NCAA believes. Nothing to see here. Carry on... :walk:

I don't disagree at all, and I really don't care one way or the other, but would you not agree it's a bit naïve to think that Hurtt was cheating to get kids to come to a historical football power like Miami, but stopped doing it and is bringing that same talent to a historically irrelevant program like Louisville? :idunno:

Clearly all speculation, but I think it's something that is fair to question.

I definitely understand your position. If Hurtt has lied to the NCAA, then it will come back to bite him at some point. Better Jurich than me making the decisions, I do not envy him in that regard.

It's obviously not an ideal situation. As an "outsider," I can't honestly say how I would handle Hurtt. He hasn't committed any violations at UofL, so you would be punishing him for things from his past. I honestly wouldn't be upset if they let him go, I'd understand. At the same time, it doesn't bother me either that they have kept him. Don't let him be involved in recruiting operations for whatever time period they see fit, and when he is allowed back, monitor him extensively. It's really a lose-lose for Louisville.

That's fair enough.

Absolutely. As long as we're speculating it's all fair to think about. So keeping that in mind, I think it's also likely that the culture surrounding Miami may have presented opportunities that aren't necessarily present at Louisville. Most of that stuff doesn't happen if not for Nevin Shapiro.

As with any big-time sports program, I'm sure there are slimeballs lurking about Floyd Street these days. The question is whether they're being enabled by coaches and administrators as Shapiro seems to have been at Miami.

And before it gets taken the wrong way, when I say "historically irrelevant" in regards to UofL's program, I'm not taking a shot at them. They have come a long way in the past 10 years or so, I'm simply saying they aren't one of those programs that people automatically think of when they think of college football. Those I consider relevant are the likes of Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Miami (FL), Florida State, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Penn State, USC, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Yeah, yeah... You hater. :D

I understood what you meant initially, though. :thumb:

My thoughts:

Given Jurich's history of standing by his coaches, I am not surprised by this. I don't think it compromises anything. The issue is (and has been) out in the open. Hurtt has been, and still is being, punished.

I think its fair to question the action. But outrage is overreaction.
