Ross Cox 3 touchdowns Anderson's defense held the flyers to 199yrs.

Anderson turned the ball over on first two possessions of the game. Franklin took advantage and got an early 14 point lead mostly on two big plays. Anderson fought back with two sustained drives for scores while FC picked up another TD. With something like 1:30 left before half FC went for it on 4th and 7 from their own 14 yd line. Go Figure that one. Anderson stopped them and then scored to tie it up at the half. The second half looked like a different game with both teams going 3 and out in fist 3 possessions or so. Finally AC broke it open on offense to score. Then an interception by AC, and a quick score again. Someone in press box said FC held to -2 yards in 4 th quarter.

I am not an Anderson fan , but i said Cox is the real deal. And for the record Franklin does not have four Coxes. He was by far the best athelete on the field.

Frankfort news paper article about the game.

LAWRENCEBURG — The risk didn’t pay off for the Franklin County Flyers Friday.

The Flyers attempted a fake punt on fourth-and-5 on their own 14-yard line with 1:17 left in the first half. The pass from Zach Durham intended for Cody Lee fell incomplete.

The Flyers’ 21-14 advantage was quickly washed away as the Bearcats took over on downs and scored when senior Ross Cox ran it in from 1 yard out to tie the game 21-21 before halftime.

In the second half, the Bearcats put up 14 unanswered points as they went on to win 35-21 at Hollie Warford Jr. Stadium. Anderson County spoiled the Flyers’ bid for a district championship and a third consecutive undefeated regular season.

“I told the kids at halftime that I take the blame for the loss,” FCHS head coach Chris Tracy said. “It was a pretty stupid call on my part. They did everything we practiced. (Anderson) had one guy out there to beat, but we should have punted it away and it could have been a different game.”

The game remained tied 21-21 until the fourth quarter when Cox ran in a 4-yard touchdown with 8:17 left in the game.

Trailing by one score, FCHS sophomore quarterback Barrett Sanderson threw only his third interception of the season to Cox. The Bearcats capitalized on the turnover on a Cox 1-yard touchdown run with 6:46 remaining.

“It took the wind out of our sails,” Tracy said. “We played really well defensively, but in the second half, I thought we were out there too long. Give Anderson County the credit, they held onto the football and did what they had to do.”

Cox finished with three touchdowns, and junior Zach Carmichael threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Brayden Russell and ran in another from a yard out. Jose Rose was a perfect five for five on extra-point kicks.

Carmichael completed 11-of-19 passes with one interception for 162 yards.

“It took a total team effort,” ACHS head coach Mark Peach said. “They had to kind of get us back in the game. I’m proud of our kids that they kept battling even when the adversity went against us, we kept plugging away until we finally took control in the second half.”

Sanderson threw two touchdowns to Lorenzo McCaskell from distances of 4 yards and 60 yards. McCaskell also scored on a 25-yard run. Durham was three for three on extra points. The Flyers (8-1) were held to 199 yards on offense — 54 on the ground and 145 in the air. Sanderson completed 11-of-21 passes.

Jhanny Rodriguez led both teams in total tackles with 7.5, and Malik Barnett pulled in one interception.

The regular season loss is the Flyers’ first since Oct. 1, 2010. Tracy challenged his players after the game to not let Anderson County beat them two weeks in a row. He warned the Flyers have to shake it off and prepare for Montgomery County this Friday.

“Two years ago, we beat (ACHS) and they ended up playing for a state championship,” Tracy said. “It’s harder because our kids aren’t used to losing, but they are resilient.”

If he is "by far" better than Lorenzo McCaskell, then he should have a D1 scholarship in hand. Does he?

Sorry, but I'll have to totally disagree. Congrats to Anderson on the win though.

RB Chris Roberts for the Flyers was a no show Friday. That dog ain't gonna hunt kid. Wake up and grow up. Flyers should have Landon Hurst back next week to go along with McCaskill and can have a one two punch again to go along with the improved passing of Sanderson. The staff has got to do better for the Flyers to get back on track. Get your mojo back guys and put in the work. Put this one behind you and learn from it.

Why would you be talking about a loss at halftime? Or was he talking about the play?

The play.

First thing Coach Tracy needs to do is stop worrying about a fake punt in the first half. That play didnt win or lose the game.

A fake punt on your own 14 is mind numbing. I'd be booed out of town if I were a coach in a big game trying that.

Live and learn I guess.

Had they of completed the pass and got the first down or better yet score he would be the Hero.

Bottom line I would be willing to bet there was more missed assignments on defense and offense that played a bigger part in the game.

What if he would have punted and it got blocked? Or bad snap? Same result, you have to turn around and play the next play.

Very true.
