theguru
to take responsibility and be accountable for once? Certainly not all, but all too often, schools never ever take responsibility for their wrong actions. Let's face it, schools systems are government organizations and no one tells a school what to do or makes them accountable (in their mind). So the KHSAA comes along and unequivocally makes the member schools responsible for their own games, coaches, and players conduct and we have a backlash and a bunch of misinformation, bad media reports, public address operators giving out wrong information at games, administrators and principals already saying no handshakes after the game and passing the buck back to the KHSAA. I find this part of it humorous and maintain that most public schools would fail miserably if they were in business. So I ask again, is the real issue each school being forced to be responsible/accountable?

Actually I always thought even with or without the KHSAA that each school was still responsible for their own actions. Lawyers make sure of that. I mean if something happened between a coach and another coach after a game, say a coach attacks another coach then it really isn't KHSAA's responsibility I would feel that it would be the school itself who would find itself in court if it went that far. The school/school board is responsible for the hiring of the personnel, not the KHSAA.
Terp
I think the problem is the KHSAA is placing accountability in the wrong place. The accountability should be with the athlete that participates in a fight. Unless it can be shown the AD, the coaches or the school administration have not acted appropriately, there should be no fine to the school or AD. Concussions, Heat Index, monitoring this and that. Coaches have always monitored handshakes. It's been like this for years and basically KHSAA's lawyer told them with all the stuff going on in the across the country with people fighting during the handshake, then they need to wash their hands of it. The Law firm of the KHSAA reviews all this stuff, even back when the heat index issues and now concussions, they put blame on the coach for everything. Not all school administrators will support this rule, but I think the 90% of coaches will have their kids shake hands. Remember in the State Finals they don't hanshake anymore due to Trophy Presentation.

Certainly the athletes that participate should be held the most accountable but some of the accountability/responsibility always belongs to the school powers that be. And I would imagine if you had an altercation and the school handled it like they should (instead of burying their head in the sand like they usually do) and took action against the offenders it wouldn't be much of an issue for them when they reported it to the KHSAA. Cool thing will be, you know some schools will try to hide it because that is what schools do (hide everything from everyone) but in the age of video cameras on our phones they will get ratted out. When this happens the KHSAA should be extremely tough on the offending school.
sidelinedoc
If I have read correctly, the biggest post game problem with altercations in the state of KY this year have been associated with girls volleyball. Can anyone confirm this?

AllenR
Totally separate topic and needs its own thread. Is there a thread on this? Can't find it. Seems odd that there was a fight at a VB game. **** Maybe if there were more of them, attendance would be much higher!

RockPride
Honestly? I'm done with the conversation...I've been involved with 100's of post game hand shakes...never seen an issue. I'd rather not talk about this anymore. It's a non-issue. If something happens, fine the schools involved, and move on.
