He has put on about 10 lbs of muscle since then too. Best athlete in the region for his position. Dunking anything close to the rim and has improved his range out to the 3 pt line.

I was expecting the same thing.

Lots of depth mainly.

 

Moreso at the 1, 2, and 3.

 

At those you can run Ruthsatz, Theobald, CVH, Romes, Shumate, Heppler , and Bo Shuh (might be leaving some out).

 

The 4 and 5 can have Bo Shuh, Mark Schult, Wichmann and the young Heppler. Not a lot of scoring from the post but Schult will D you to your ears fall off and hustle.

 

My questions for CCH:

 

Can they find a #2 scorer who is consistent and can take the pressure off of Ruthsatz?

Has Bo Schuh's offensive game improved?

Can Ben Heppler hit the outside shot consistently?

How long will it take CVH to adjust from football AND to the level of competition?

How big of a role will Romes play ? ( I think it can be significant).

Does Shumate step into the "shooter" role?

Who steps up besides Wich and adds "toughess" that was lost with Toebler and Fredrick?

 

It's going to be a fun season with a great schedule.

 

I've had the opportunity to see Covcath several times over the past few weeks and months. Here is my best guess to the questions asked above:

 

1 and 2. IMO Bo Schuh will be the second leading scorer. When I saw him in an open gym two weeks ago (and not fully healthy) he showed a nice touch from outside and also got several put backs around the rim from using his athleticism to out jump the other guys. Bo also seems to have improved his ball handling which could help him take has man off the dribble out on the perimeter.

 

3. The younger Heppler will see a lot of playing time. He doesn't wow you with anything he does, but plays hard and provides a toughness, along with Schult, that will surprise a lot of people. Covcath will be undersized in the front court, but they will flat out get after you on defense. I really like what Coach R is doing with the team in the off season both on and off the court.

 

4. Coming off an injury can be tough for a kid to adjust to, especially when the kid hasn't picked up a basketball in a couple months because of playing another sport. From everything I've heard, CVH played well over the summer and had several games in the high teens to help take pressure off Ruthsatz. The nice thing about Covcath's offense is that anyone can bring the ball up the court to set up the offense. Cole's strength will be as a slasher and finisher around the rim.

 

5. Haven't seen much out of Romes in the times I've seen Covcath but he will contribute in some way.

 

6. I really like what Schumate brings to this team. He has the strength and toughness to mix it up down low and really impressed me with his outside shot in the times I've seen him. Very smooth release and mid range game was almost automatic. Expect his role to increase in a big way if he can play solid defense.

 

7. Wichman, both Heppler's, and Schult will provide more than enough toughness down low for the Colonels. They might not be the most athletic group, but they play very hard.

 

I admittedly wasn't as high on Covcath at the beginning of the summer but after being around them throughout the summer and getting a better feel for this team, I think they can surprise a few people. I still like Holmes, Dixie, and Newcath a little more, but Covcath is closer to those three than I originally thought.

Hatton will be healthy this year for the first time since his sophomore year. Expect to see a huge change in the way he plays.

 

At this point, I'd probably put Bolden #1 just because of the season he had last year and how much he has improved over the summer but ask me at the beginning of January and my opinion could change. Both are great players,

Both are good players, but you'd think that after last season, Bolden would have the nod, especially with all of the recruiting attention he's getting. As far as the high school level in Kentucky goes though, you can't go wrong with either though.

The player list is good and of course up for discussion but there will be a sleeper in Colin Hathorn at Cooper. He will give the Jags a true "banger" that they have really NEVER had to allow them to win the district for a 3rd year in a row IMO. Any of the Top 5 teams could make it to Rupp.

Good call, Six. Kid is thick and getting thicker as he matures. If he adds a post-up game to his active play he can be hard to handle in the 9th.
