Why is everyone ignoring the soph Marcus Watson. This young kid has held his own and may be close to the leading tackler on the dine. Actually there are quite a few sophs that have contributed and many more that could if the staff would take the time to work them in (but that's another story).

Marcus is a great lineman and will be the cornerstone on the line for the next couple years.

 

I think what the message was is that this isnt a 1 man team and has many talented players who are overlooked because of last year.

There are players that have been very good and great contributors to this team for 3 years yet no one talks about them so ppl not associated with Cooper ignores them because they don't know about them. That was the point.

 

As far and the sophomore thing. I get kind of tired hearing about it. People act like this is the first year sophomores aren't playing a lot. There are at least 3 sophs starting this year. None that I know of last year started

And only 3 the year before. Can some play? I'm sure they can but until they step up in practice and beat out the player in front of them then they won't earn a spot on the starting team.

 

They aren't the only boys that have to wait their time. I'm glad they don't go to HHS or we'd hear the same

Cooper's young linemen get blown off the line and into the line backers most every play. They may lead the team in tackles, but it's usually 6 yards down the field. Not where linemen should be making tackles if they are "holding their own" at the line of scrimmage.

Marcus is good now and he will be one of the top linemen two years from now.

And what game did you watch? Cooper only has 2 interior down lineman, that's why a majority of the tackles are made by the lone linebacker and and secondary.

 

When teams double team the interior lineman and lead block to level 2, of course it's going to look like they get blown of the ball.

I understand you're tired of hearing about it Hellbird, but I'm also tired of seeing it! I've watched practice and quite a few sophs that are darn good athletes are being wasted by running NOTHING but scout plays at practice, and standing there watching the starting 11 + 4 prep for Friday night. I've watched this team long enough to know that some of those boys are more than capable of stepping up if given the chance. Coming from freshman to the opportunity to be a varsity player as a soph is a shell shock in the beginning, but just because a kid didn't meet the summer ball standards, it doesn't mean they can't work up to it during season. If a kid puts on a uniform, I'm going to give him every opportunity to take someones spot; that's what creates depth, which the Jags don't have because tI guess too many players "aren't showing it in practice". That JV team is not 4-1 for no reason.

Don't you think standing out on scout team will get you noticed? It does. There are sev players that played on scout team last year or year before who got noticed and broke onto the starting lineup.

 

I'm curious who you think should be starting that isn't.

Don't get me wrong FanofMany, I'd love to see every kid play on friday nights, it just isn't feasible which is why there is JV and JV games so they get the chance to play as sophomores.

 

I would also as I'm sure the coaches would love a platoon system, it just isn't possible yet with the players they have. The same kids that are complaining now (I'm not saying they are, but sure sounds like their parents may be) will be the same kids 2 years from now that will be lighting it up on Friday nights and you will have to deal with a new batch of sophomores saying the same thing that is being said now.

 

I hope they all get to play, but the best sophomores now seem to be getting time. There are always going to be new people you will see playing. I can think of several just over the past 2 games that found the field on Varsity so it's not like they are being ignored. I also remember the beginning of the year the special teams alone was made up of majority underclassmen and mostly sophomores, they got their chance but unfortunatley it didn't work out and changes had to be made.

 

I know it's frustrating especially if you have a son you think deserves to see the field. The only advice I can give is Varsity football is an entirely different animal. No other football played by any player was a mix of 3 and sometimes 4 different grades making up 1 team. Sometimes kids just have to do their time until their number is called, and trust me it will. There are several seniors who have played since frshman year and still have not seen the field on Friday Nights this year. It's just how it is. These same guys have never complained one time and have been to every practice starting from freshman year on. They enjoy the team mentality and know they may never see the field.

 

I really hope what you are saying fanofmany is coming just from you and not the sophomores on the team because if it is coming from the sophomores then that is the type of stuff that divides teams.
