Beechwood hosts the Covington Catholic Colonels in a televised Thursday night matchup on October 3 at 7 pm. The Tigers last beat Covington Catholic in 2008. This one is shaping up as the Tigers inconsistent offense versus the Colonels strong defense. Can the Tigers stop the string of Covington Catholic wins in this series this year?

Let's be honest about CCH's D. They're above average. We saw yesterday that they're not "really good."

Sounds like Bw is lucky to be catching the Covington boys right now while they have some injuries. I am still leaning Covington's way but the injuries may give the Tigers a chance

That is all relative Clyde. Cov Cath shut out one top 10 6A team and held another top 10 6A team that has 36+ in every other game to just 13 points. Without closely comparing them to other teams, I would say CCH's defense is one of the best in KY. I know Saturday's performance was disappointing but that was one game and it was against an offensive powerhouse in Highlands. Moeller is one of the best in the nation. If "really good" means you have to be able to stop those teams, then I agree. If "really good" is comparing them to the top teams in KY, CCH's defense is really good.

I hesitate to stay in these debates because CCH people will be offended. I am NOT saying they are a bad defense. I am saying they are NOT really good. If this D is top 10 in the state then KY football is down overall.

 

I discount all good AND bad from a team's first game of the season so I will not include the Dixie game as I truly believe Dixie would perform better if they played again. Plus it was CCH's 2nd game vs Dixie's 1st.

 

Henderson County being a top 10 6A team is a joke. Their offense is just fair and that's against only "fair" competition.

I have to say that Cov Caths D is pretty darn good. Look at it like this...Highlands offense is almost unstoppable and when you have serious players out on offense that really hurts because you cant sustain drives and eat up clock. Just my opinion. No one in NKY is going to look any better against HHS except Simon but that is assuming they have there qb, rb and wr healthy or it would be the same result. Not a Cov Cath fan just giving my opinion.

Beechwood's D has played pretty well overall. Dixie's big line definitely went downhill on them but they have played the run much better since that game. The Tigers learned from that one and there were some personnel changes. I still expect the Colonels game plan to be focused on running it over the Tigers.

 

No doubt Beechwood will need a big game from Fieger to get the win. They have had trouble running the ball, although that too has improved each week.

 

I haven't seen the Colonels yet. My read on the game without personally seeing CCH is the Tigers defense is good enough to hold CCH to 21 or less. The question is whether the Tigers can be successful enough throwing the ball to score more than that.
