Gary Patterson at TCU

It's the most profiled job in the country. They'll aim a little higher.

Gary Patterson is high profile. The Orange Bloods have wanted him for years- ever since Muschamp went to Florida.

Unless Nick Saban, Les Miles or Steve Spurrier suddenly become available, Gary Patterson will be the name linked to that gig and would be a coup for Hook' em, IMO.

Gary Patterson at TCU

He just lost to tech right?

Charlie Strong would bring Texas back to Cal UK like levels.

You are right, TCU lost to Texas Tech- on the road- with a back up QB playing.

Gary Patterson also led TCU to an undefeated season and a Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin. He has led TCU into the Big 12 and to unprecedented program success getting the leftovers in recruiting in the state of Texas.

I'm not sure why people want to dog Gary Patterson like he can't coach- check his resume and put it up against anyone in the country and you'll see why ALL the sports talk in the DFW area already has him linked to this gig. He is on the short list with names like Jon Gruden, Dana Holgerson and Major Applewhite.

UT fans want a Saban, Miles, Spurrier, Urban type, but know it is unlikely. Charlie Strong is NOT a name being linked to this gig right now in the media outlets in DFW. The AD will likely be gone at UT by the end of the calendar year, so maybe some insight will come from whoever is selected or that job.

Told one of my friends whose a UT alum (he was actually a UT "Hell Raiser", which is similar to Student Athletic Council at UK) that they should take a hard look at hiring Gruden. Super Bowl winner whose NFL pedigree brings recognition. Texas alone recruits itself for most of the kids, but the fact that he's been on ESPN for years and probably wants a chance to prove himself won't hurt either.

Swooping in and taking Gary Peterson from TCU (which would weaken them at the same time), probably wouldn't be a bad consolation prize either.

TCU is a very, very well-to-do school.

Aside from SMU and Rice, this is probably the nicest school in Texas... the University of Texas has lots of funds and resources because their alumni base and endowment (i.e., at worst, it's the 4th nicest... unless you count a small liberal arts school the size of Transy/Centre named Southwestern).

Make no mistake about it, TCU has some resources. It's not exactly a school that's out in a cow pasture in the sticks).

How do you think the Longhorn faithful would react to Applewhite?

I just think he's too green and not ready for the pressure cooker that is Texas football.

Mack Brown looks like he's aged 10 years since 2011.

It is getting hotter by the minute.

You guys... :lol2:

I think Major is coming up as an in season replacement for Mack. I am not sure what impact he has had on the program from a coaching perspective. I will say I like looking at young guys over recycling the same old guys.

If I'm a Texas fan, I just worry that he's too green, especially with Kevin Sumlin doing his thing at A&M. Given Sumlin's time at Houston, he probably has some very nice inroads in Houston and the East Texas area in general. East Texas may lack in population (comparatively considering that some call Tyler a "small town" despite it having a population of over 100,000), but they make up for it in talent. Adrian Peterson, Earl Campbell, Cedric Benson, Eric Dickerson, and so many more. Campbell and Benson are actually from the same high school in Tyler.

Point I'm trying to make is, if Texas misses on this hire, Sumlin could lock down the eastern-half of Texas and the Houston area and feast in the recruiting game.

In wake of losses to Ole Miss and BYU in consecutive weeks, it looks like the writing is on the wall for Mack Brown.
