September 19, 201313 yr Les Miles probably wouldn't mind getting away from Saban. Interesting, especially since he would presumably keep many of his ties in the Louisiana/East Texas area. I'd actually forgotten that he coached as an assistant for the Dallas Cowboys at one time as well. If he has a season that LSU powers that be view as disappointing, maybe it gets interesting. Definitely a long shot/wild card, but one that at least has more reasons for being plausible than someone like Strong or Dungy. Despite all that, I think that the 'scandal' (and I use that term very, very loosely) and associated fallout from the breaking Oklahoma State story will be something that keeps him from ever being seriously considered.
September 19, 201313 yr Les Miles probably wouldn't mind getting away from Saban. I thought about him last night. He's been great at LSU but he doesn't really have a lot of ties there. He might want to make the move. But he is a little older (59) and Texas seems to be moving away from that.
September 19, 201313 yr I agree that, in general, that is the case. Texas is the big offer that the top kids wait on, but don't underestimate the pull of the other schools. Think Texas A&M in the Houston and East Texas areas, TCU and now SMU in Dallas/Fort Worth areas, Baylor in Central Texas, Texas Tech in far West Texas, and the University of Houston in the city of Houston. You could practically make a conference of Texas teams (throw in Rice, UTSA, Texas State, North Texas, etc. as bottom feeders). In the not so distant pass, the old Southwest Conference was made up of: Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, SMU, TCU, Rice, Houston, Texas Tech, and Arkansas. So to the bolded, there you go, there was a major conference once made up of nearly all Texas schools. Began to break up in the early 90's I guess. Conference champ received an invitation to the Cotton Bowl, one of only four New Year's Day Bowls. (They were the equivalent to a BCS bowl today, for lack of a better comparison. Southeastern Conference champ went to the Sugar Bowl. Big Ten and Pac Ten champs went to the Rose Bowl. Big Eight champs went to the Orange Bowl. That was college football 30 years ago. Stroll down memory lane over, I don't think Gruden or Dungy want any part of the college game, even at UT. Patterson makes the most sense, but with the money involved, I'd say anyone who is coaching college football not named Nick Saben or Brian Kelly would be in the mix.

Fast paced offense that would be attractive to recruits. Robert Griffin III with a Heisman and starting NFL gig. Lache Seastrunk this year. Could be a really good thing if he got on stage at UT.
