Series History: Owensboro Leads 38-31-2

Series at Bowling Green: Series Tied 18-18-1

 

The Purples and Red Devils renew one of the oldest rivalries in the state, with 71 meetings dating back to 1932. This will be the seventh consecutive year the teams will play, something that is increasingly hard to find for the Purples out of district. The Purples have won 5 consecutive against Owensboro, last losing in the 2008 playoffs. That was their last loss to Owensboro at home as well.

 

The teams both enter unbeaten, the Purples at 2-0 while Owensboro is 3-0. This is the first game for the Devils outside of their City-County schedule, where they swept their fellow Daviess County teams to take that title. The Purples of course are on a 32 game winning streak and added another marquee win with their third consecutive win over St. Xavier. That game was perhaps not even as close as the 39-25 final would make it seem. Last year the Purples slammed Owensboro 31-3 at El Donaldson Stadium.

Bowling Green 35-7.

I think this one is close for a bit , then B.G. pulls away, 42-21.

Last year's game was actually played at the infamous Dungeon, not at The Big El. The Red Devils did a marvelous job of keeping the ball away from Fant on offense and on punt returns last year. They are well coached and well disciplined. They also have most of their starters back from last year. However, I simply don't think that Fant will lack touches this year...if that happens, the final score will not reflect what a good team the Red Devils are. So far, RB Blake Pillow is playing better than last year as well. I have a feeling that QB Devin Hayes will have his best game this year to date. His 307 yds passing and 103 yds rushing against St X last week were career highs to date. The Purples' defense has real teeth once again, and they won't give up nearly the pts they have against LexCath and St X. Bear in mind that they scored 42 unanswered against LexCath.

Techinically it was just one of the sportswriters. Cole Claybourn who picked that score. All six of the predictors choose BG to win with the others scores being 34-31, 31-27, 35-20, 52-17, & 49-27.

Fair enough, though most of those picks are not much better. If this game is within 4 scores, Owensboro would be very fortunate. 52-17 is the closest to something I expect to see.
