Mr.Network
I have to disagree. Unless they have a lot more speed besides Calhoun (who I really hope is healed up from his hip injury and ready for his senior season as I like that kid a lot), I didn't see them as having any more team speed than South Laurel or GRC (the prohibitive favorite for the 2006 season with all they bring back) and definitely not as much as Madison Central (who most think will be down, but we thought that 2 years ago, and all they did was go unbeaten in district play and make the regional finals that season before losing to eventual AAAA runnerup Scott County). I think Lincoln will be right in the hunt and that the district will be wide open. But I am not sure they are ready to jump from not making the playoffs to winning the district just yet. But I agree that they will be a very solid team in 2006! It is true that Lincoln County has not been in the playoffs since 2000 but the Patriots do have a considerable football history (which I agree means absolutely nothing for this upcoming season) and have a coach with 30+ years experience and much playoff success at Meade (which does mean something): LCHS Since 1974 State AAA Runnerup (2)- 1993, 1990 State AAA Semifinalist (3)- 1993, 1990, 1988 Regional Champion (3)-1993, 1990, 1988 Regional Runnerup (5)-1999, 1995, 1994, 1992, 1981, 1979 District Champion (7)-1994, 1993, 1991, 1990, 1988, 1981, 1979 District Runnerup (3)-1999, 1998, 1995, 1987, 1982 Sub-District Champion (3)-1982, 1981, 1979 Of course, the last time Lincoln County won a playoff game (1999), this year's Seniors were only in the 5th grade. But back to the point of Buffalo Gap's comment on speed, Lincoln County will have more team speed as well as two explosive feature backs in Trent Calhoun and Braxton Miller. The Patriots have a new Offensive Coordinator and the quarterback, Rogers, has shown very well in 7 on 7 games. I don't think Lincoln County receives nor deserves any respect in this district until they prove they can win ballgames. Hopefully, that will happen this year. Philip Hay
Head Coach Shawn Thompson has hired an Offensive Coordinator who has worked with Bob Redman in the past. I've never heard of him so Im not sure what to expect from them Offensively. A friend of mine tells me that his father is an assistant at Male, so maybe that will serve as a possible idea as to what they will run. Good luck Raiders! Shawn is a very good coach and an even better person. Hated to see him leave Mason County. He deserved a head coaching job though. Hope he is able to get things going there.
