The guy who does the RivalsHigh 100 mentioned that he and his staff put a good amount of weight on scrimmages. I'd say a 4-TD loss to a Trinity team that then loses its first regular season game at home did more to damage HHS on the national scene than a 40-point HHS victory against a FL school.

I disagree. I knew what was going to happen on Saturday as soon as I saw key starters for UC going both ways but as G said, UC handled Highlands the first quarter and a half. That hurts worse than scrimmage.

Their offense was squashed on most plays, but seemed to jump off the hook with a few big third down plays or HHS mistakes. This game really was never in question. The fact that the slaughter didn't begin until the second quarter is consistent both with the way the coaching staff has always adjusted to what they're given and with the fact that they were playing a team with completely unknown players in a completely unknown game plan. So logically, it's going to take a bit of time to get your ducks (Birds) in a row. But this game should have done nothing but reflect positively on the program in general, and this team specifically.

Just saw this response. In my world when a team is ahead of the other team for a quarter and a half then that means they 'handled' that team for a quarter and a half. Not 'manhandled'. Not 'smashed'. Not 'destroyed'. Simply 'handled'. Meaning they were in the game for a quarter in a half.

 

I also made the disclaimer that I knew what was going to happen as soon as I saw key starters going both ways for UC. Check the update thread for my post when UC was up 16-7 or whatever the score was when they scored their second touchdown. My words were..."I've seen this before." That post was a reference to the Boyle County game of 2012 when they 'handled' the Birds for a half.

Hard to give any of them a lot of credibility after you get past a handful of teams. Still, it's a lot of fun for those who get mentioned.
