Agree or Disagree?

IMHO, there are 9 teams who merit ranking...then there is a pod of about 7 or 8 teams who are all about even for that #10 spot. I think Mason is the #9 team (and wouldn't be surprised to see them go undefeated). By and large think you nailed it.

Monroe County is in that group of 7 or 8 teams along with the following Morgan County, Breathitt County, Lawrence County, Garrard County, Trigg County, and Corbin

I agree. That group of seven on the back end that you mentioned seem capable of being good, could end up better than we think, but look more like second rounders or maybe regional finalists, while the group at the top seem more likely to appear in Bowling Green.

I believe I would slide Belfry into the #1 position

Fair point, although I'm willing to wait a week. Belfry hasn't played a game, and while we all expect them to be good, I'd like to see them play first. Central lost to a Manual team that will be decent, but not among the big five in 6A. If they struggle with a Lafayette team that would appear to be very similar to Manual, then there might be a reason to drop Central down.

The one team in this ranking that I'm unsure about is Bell County. I'm sure they'll be good by the end of the year but I'm just not sure what to expect from them right now.

I would be more willing to slide Wayne County to #1 rather than Belfry without playing a game. Pirates have a jaw dropping level of talent and experience at the skill positions, but until we all see how that new line and essentially re-constructed defense perform I have a hard time moving them. Belfry may have 4-5 Freshman who play large amounts of key minutes this year. Plus, Belfry may be on the verge of a beatdown next week against a buzzsaw named Harlan County.

I also think the Central lost to Manual is being a bit overstated. Manual is not only a 6A team..but historically a pretty solid one. Id you take any other 3A school and put them on the schedule I am not sure any of them would be a favorite over Manual. Central also lost in spite of their defense. The name of the game is defense and at this point I still would feel fairly confident that Central's defense would allow them to win by simply forcing other 3A teams to score "less" than they score. No doubt central's offense is taking a step back..but that is still a Top 10 Defense in the State regardless of class.

This week and the 13th is where i think you determine if Central is moving out of the #1 spot. Lafayette, although a 6A school, is fresh off a massive butt kicking to Scott County. Doss is simply not a very strong team.. losses in either game..coupled with other 3A teams holding serve..and then I think you can look at shuffling the #1 spot.

My gut instincts on Bell is they certainly are taking a step back this season, but it is not as prevalent as some people seem to think. It seems like it is "Bell County Safe Mode". They aren't as big, they don't have the backs with the "It" factor, and their defense is very good, but not dominant. Still a team capable of matching up and beating any other 3A team on a given night, but IMO one TD weaker on defense and one TD weaker on offense than the past two years.

Breathitt County, IMO, is going to be night and day weaker than the past couple years...Bell County though simply is more vulnerable with little to no margin of error when they make a mistake.

agree, but don't sleep on this Paducah Tilghman Team that has probably the hardest schedule in 3a. If they beat Reitz this week I expect them to move up a spot after beating 6a McCracken, who is a very good first year team. But it looks about right for now. PT is very talented and is only going to gel together the next couple of weeks.we will know more about them after Mayfield week and going into the Highlands matchup. The first stretch of their schedule is really going to be difficult to navigate. But they will come out battle tested for sure.

As for Central they are the kings of 3a for now and will be so until proven otherwise.

Belfry has something to prove and will be interesting to watch this season.

I believe South Warren will prove to be a top 5 team.

they should, being able to pull from nearly 1800 students.5A is where they should be next realignment.

First off all, 1800 is a little deceiving, because only half of any enrollment will be boys. That would make them around 900.

Second, according the KHSAA/State Board of Education data posted below, South Warren had 525 boys enrolled last year, 140 of which were seniors. Now I know the school is growing and will move up in class with the next alignment, but if they truly have 900 boys this year, then wouldn't that mean their freshman class has 515 boys in it? That seems like a stretch.

just going by what a teacher that is there told me. If I have made an error I apologize in advance. Still bigger numbers to choose from for sure.If youre math is correct 4a seems right.

Ok few quick facts about South Warren. When the School opened in 2010 it opened with 798 students in 9th to 12th graded with 9th being the largest near 250 students. Warren County gave some students options of staying at there current school (Greenwood or Central). Each year the class that graduated has been smaller and the incoming freshman has been around 250 students. This is the first year that all students in 12th grade has attended the all 4 years at South Warren. The Senior class has 248 students in it. I know this since I know where my child is ranked and out of how many. When School opened this Aug there was 1,006 enrolled. However, they expect the number to be about 1,060 once students that were late in registering etc. are in and when the official numbers are taken in I believe Oct. According to administrators they believe that South will be bumped up to 5A at the next realignment which is after next year. If they are lucky to be placed in 4A they would be one of the larger schools. In addition as we all know the classification is based on Male Students. I have seen many post of South Warren having 1800 students before. The only possible way to get to that number and I still think it would be a far reach is to include the Middle School numbers in that math. There is between 550 and 600 7th and 8th graders at the middle school. If you include that amount then it would be around 1,800 there at the building but it is two separate schools Middle and High under one roof.

Ok now with the background there is no doubt that South got a gift when it was classed and allowed to remain in 3A for the next two years.
