Raceland travels to Putnam Stadium on Friday night to take on the Tomcats in their home opener. Ashland lost to a very good NCC team last week while Raceland went to 1-0 over East Carter.

Who wins this one ?

I am pulling for Raceland in this one, no disrespect towards Ashland.

 

Raeland will have to contain that speedy back from Ashland to have a shot to win. He won't be shutdown, but he can't be allowed to have one of those 250 yards type games, with three or four Td's.

 

I also think Raceland will need a fast start to take this one.

 

The kicking game will need a monumental improvement for Raceland along with the receivers catching balls. They have four or five drops last week that I remember.

 

If the Def line plays as well as they did last week and the offense does not get off to the slow start they did last week, Raceland could win this one.

 

If a gun was put to my head I would say Ashland takes this one, but it will be close.

Raceland will have to come out and play to win this one. The flat start against East Carter was really disappointing given the talent and experience the Rams have this year. Baker will get his yards, but the Raceland defense will have to stop the big runs. Line play on both sides of the ball will determine this outcome.

Ashland wins this game 35 - 7. Baker will be a legit D-1 back his senior year, the kid can flat out fly. The NCC game is a lot closer if he touches the ball more.

Baker's legit...no doubt, but do you really think Ashland's defense is going to hold the RAMS to seven points with only two starters back? Also, the New Cath game wouldn't have been as close if NCC hadn't turned it over four times, and Ashland scored late to pull to within 11 (the final margin).

 

If Raceland contains the corners and the offense gets on track I like the RAMS by 2 TD's.

I like the Rams here, but they need to have their heads screwed on tight and come out firing on offense.

I agree with you on the turnovers. I just couldn't figure out why Ashland didn't give the ball to Baker more. NCC has some speed on the edges and looked to be coached very well, but man, they couldn't stop him outside. Once Ashland got behind they had to throw the ball a little and that isn't their strong point. I'm not giving Raceland their due because I haven't seen them play, but from what I've seen from Baker if he gets going it might be a long night for Raceland.

I felt really good about this one until I watched us play last night. Now I am concerned and believe us to be the underdog.

Time to get this week started!

I would feel far more confident in a Raceland win if Ashland would have won their opener and Raceland wouldn't had looked so uncertain (for lack of a better term) in their opener. Ashland's home opener is a tough enough task and couple that with them hungry for win no. 1 of the season and for Coach Love's first win then you have it even tougher.

I know that there is an old saying that a team shows its most improvement from week 1 to week 2 and for Raceland's sake I certainly hope that is true for this game. Ashland lost to a far superior team in NCC than Raceland struggled in the first half with in the Rams opener. I am like other Raceland fans in that I am somewhat disappointed in the showing last week, especially in the first half. No one this season will stop Baker, I just want to keep him from running wild. I would think that the Tomcats will be the favorite.

Having said all of that useless info I am going to go out on a limb and say that Raceland wins this one in a close one.

Rams, I have brought out the old "hard work" lunch box this week. I am positive that your coaches are and will be working hard to correct the issues that you had last week, preparing their always great game plan for this week along some things that you did not show in the opener.

Work hard, carry that lunch box mentality to work every day in practice/preparation all week. Go out and EXECUTE on Friday night and things will take care of themselves.

Agreed, I believe that we had something like 5 or 6 t/o's in that Ashland game last season. Without all the turnovers-Raceland wins that one, they handed the game to them. That was last year though, just making the point that the Rams have to hang on to the ball and cut the mistakes.

The winner of this one will probably come down to whoever makes the fewer mistakes.
