Platoon Football

Featured Replies

I believe Dale went to the 2 Platoon exclusively in 2009 because he was loaded, result one of the most important wins in Highlands history imo over Cincy St X on National TV.

In 20n10 he really had no business two platooning but he knew if he was going to take Highlands to a different level than every team in the State of KY then he had to stick with his long term plan. Result, a loss to Ryle and Highlands 20th State Championship.

The rest was history after 2010 imo. Dale sacrificed a perfect season for where his program is now...Just sayin:thumb:

Ask the Florida coach what he thinks about Highlands numbers. Its one thing to have numbers, its another to have numbers that talent level does not drop off from 1 thru 3.

That is called depth and I attribute that to Highlands coaching imo, not open enrollment and the 5 out of district Student/Athletes...Just sayin:thumb:

It's impressive to watch an offensive play, that group hustles off the field and another group comes in makes a play, that group switches out, it's like clockwork. Wave after wave coming at you and it keeps the kids ready, fresh and I would think it helps cut down on injuries. Even if some injuries do occur, the next man is always ready to step in.

Right on. And people want to know why Highlands needs all those coaches on their team...

We have our answer:thumb:

Bottom line is this, just because you have enough students on the practice field does not mean you have "players". While I will give in to the fact that all players need to be developed no matter how good they are there is something to be said that not all persons dressed in a football uniform are ready for Friday nights. I said this in another thread. There are enough bodies walking the hallways of Cooper and probably several other Boone Co. HS's but the fact remains, at least at Cooper, those kids that aren't committed to the grind of a summer schedule are simply not going to come out. In Cooper's case it has NOTHING to do with development as their coaching staff is solid but sometimes you can't turn an "apple into an orange". It will be 5-8 years before this program is ready to platoon and couple that with the fact that the draw that Cooper has to pull from is the smallest of all the 4 schools in the area it simply not going to happen anytime soon. Their MS school program is developing future players but it is only in it's 3rd year so it will take some time but until then "It is what it is" and the starters are simply going to have to be in better shape to endure long games with limited time coming off the field. HHS is a storied program and all this rhetoric is like comparing said "apple to an orange" and neither holds any water IMO. CHS is in it's 6th season and as long they are competitive and the MS program keeps developing players for the future they will be just fine.

The only school that is platooing the majority of it's player is Ryle and they have not only the number of bodies to do it but also more importantly the Athletes to do it..
