Tough crowd. This is the original question I was responding to:

Who from NKY has recently been playing D1 basketball?

Note Walter put his limation on the question as the 13 poster on the subject and he didn't even start the thread.

I see no reason to limit this to just 10 years. Heck back in my day CovCath alone sent in just three or four years numerous players to UD/Dayton, UK, and Tulsa all D1 schools.

The thread asks why Northern KY doesn't produce more D1 talent. Lewin committed to a Division I school, so that's why he was included in the discussion of Division I talent.

Ronnie Dawn was a crowd favorite at the Henderson Center. They weren't terribly good, but really fun to watch.

Than you can't count Rice or Jefferson either.

Pennick - Ludlow to Wright State or Ohio U ??

Wright State. Ended up at Morehead.

If we are talking present day answer to the question, I think the past 10 years is a much better way to gauge and judge how the question should be answered.

I have no agenda here TOG. You should know this by now after numerous talks with me in person about nky basketball.

Fair enough.

Talent and DNA.

Sorry to offend anyone if I did, but the game is leaving the common white athlete (at least American born) further behind every year, at all levels....go take a look at basketball rosters in our state from KCU to UK, and the number of white kids under 6'3 is becoming less and less.

Frankly, I think that's a solid number of kids.

Ok, I've seen enough to formulate an opinion that NKY does produce its share of D1 talent.

I think most will tell you and remember I am old enough to have seen him play vs. CovCath, that not many thought he would be the player he turned into upon leaving NewCath, but indeed he was a great College and Pro player.

True, but not bad for a guy who only played his Jr & Sr. year of HS.

Something that has always baffled me is why more kids in the Greater Cincinnati area don't end up taking the route of a player like Demarko Foster and moving to Kentucky where they are a big fish in a small pond and can get lots of playing time, opportunities to be a focal point of the offense, etc.

I certainly understand why some of the top level players in the area who have D1 rides locked up wouldn't find this appealing, but I've never understood why it would be such a hard sell to get a kid who'd be the 9th or 10th man off the bench (or not even able to make the varsity team) at a school like Aiken to come be a "star" at a school like Highlands, Holmes, etc.
