I have neither heard of either kid, maybe they are division 1 or maybe they aren't division 1 I will refrain from comment because I honestly dont know haven't seen them.

 

However, why is everyone "d-1" now or he will play D-1. Over the last 10 months on twitter, boards, etc people have become ridiculous. If you read twitter you would think that each class in Kentucky has 20-30 division 1 basketball players, that isnt the case. Everyone is d-1. Just cause a college mails you a division 1 letter or calls your coach doesn't mean your d-1. College coaches call in on a kid to check him out, will evaluate over time, but one phone call doesn't mean d-1. When a college offers , then they are recruiting you, whenthe college calls about you, they are evaluating you, HUGE difference.

 

At times it is almost embarrassing the unrealistic knowledge that some have. I know one in state college staff extremely well and one member is a very good friend talk daily, outside of a basketball relationship, personal. I know every kid they offer, who after, etc and we will laugh at some of these interviews the student-athletes do or that some writer or coach will put on the internet about a school is recruiting me, was at all my games this summer, etc. and the kids won't get a sniff.

 

Elite camps invite a whole lot of kids, when they are really evaluating about 4-6 kids they actually have on campus, the rest are there for the run. It is great to have goals and good that everyone wants to play division 1 but the reality is there is only about 1500 division 1 basketball scholarships given out every year across the country, in the past 6-10 come from Kentucky kids, a special class is 12-15 and that is a class that is once in five or ten year class. It isn't all of the sudden going to change overnight and 40-50 kentucky kids get scholarships to division 1. Look at Kentucky population as a state, it is equivalent to some metro areas, Baltimore - D.C ., Philly etc. 5-15 kids a year is what those areas put out every year so Kentucky is holding their own with rest of nation based on population, actually probably more than holding their own.

 

I hope 40-50 can get division 1 scholarships, but at a point and time you have to be realistic. There aren't enough people that are just point blank honest with parents and players. My opinion, the 2014 class is a good deep class, will have 12-15 division 1 players in it maybe a couple more, a rare and special class with depth. 2015 and 2016 neither class will have over 10 division 1 signees. My opinion might be wrong but that is just my opinoin.

 

The two mentioned here, Taylor and Conway, I don't know them they might be division 1. This isn't nothing on them, this is in general. Some kids that come to my mind over the last few years off the top of my head that never received a division 1 scholarship offer out of high school are Mason County kids. Trevor Setty, Russ Middleton and Jordan Gilbert. Everyone of those kids could play, two of three could have probably got a division 1 offer but if they played now, they would be hyped so high in reality they didn't any d-1 offers. Setty blossomed late in college and is now playing professionally over seas, just goes to show you how hard it actually is and d-1 isn't always the best place. I am sure Setty doesn't regret going to Pikeville and playing in front of 6-8 more times the fans he would have played in front of if going to a small d-1 in the MAAC for example. Kentucky Wesleyan will have larger crowds on average for their home games than a third d-1. Cause you are special at age 10 , 12 etc doesn't mean you are in high school and there are late bloomers everywhere/. Same around the state, there are going to be someone out of each class come out of nowhere that none of us mention to get a college scholarship to a d-2, NAIA or maybe even d-1. Wherever your scholarship is it doesn't matter, the goal is to graduate college at age 21, 22, 23 and be debt free. If you have did that, you have succeeded and owe all the people that helped you along the way a big thank you.

 

Very, very well said in many regards. Kids should know that the college "experience" is what it's all about. Unless you play at a major D1, meaning a top 10 type program, no one remembers or cares in 10 years. It's about having fun in a good program with a good coach and, hopefully, matching that with a school that offers a degree in a field in which the kid has an interest (if they know) -and having it paid for! D1, D2 or NAIA - the fit and experience are the most important things, by far, in the long run.

Young Life do you think Dwayne "Waynie" Sutton from Manual deserves some recognition as one of the top players in the class of 2015? I know he had a great year for Manual as a sophomore leading them in scoring(11.5) and rebounding (8.5) last season. He had at least 10 double-doubles if not more as well as being an excellent defender.

Timmy isn't better than Bolden or Justice. Not even close really. He may be deserving of mention in the top 20 for argument's sake but I'd take Jacob Conway over Timmy without thinking.

He's a true PG. Creates for his teammates as well as anyone. Deceptively quick and a threat from outside as well. Jacob is a very good shooter and can put up a lot of points. He has good height too.

 

Both are good and have "college potential," but they are very different players. Unfortunately, like many kids in this area, they don't get a lot of exposure, thus the reason so few folks on here are familiar with them. If they were seen more, they'd be in the conversation for sure IMO.

I have coached both over the summer.I have seen both strengths and weakness..jacob Conway over Timmy. Conway has a lot of upside Timmy is the real deal. He has a few schools sniffing his trail. I would say may more once season start. Excellent BB I que..ball handler..create own shoot as well as making others around him better. Timmy being behind Bolden and Justice isn't an insult either. Maybe Timmy can finally lead his team to at least a district title so he can prove just how good he is.

Let's be honest guys...after Bolden, Justice, Spalding, McDonald, and maybe 3 or 4 more kids there is a drop off in this class as far as talent goes. Those are the "ELITE" players. After that, you have a lot of VERY GOOD players. Big difference between the two, though.

Never mad actually it was a mutual decision. #Thomashager said it best in his reply about each player. Every player doesn't always fit a certain style of play. Actually jacob ended season with us in Indy. Jacob could play for me any day. Sometimes the pieces dnt fit.

Jones wasnt a true PG but did a nice job in that position nonetheless. He was a senior that led the team with the highest power ranking in the area, so Im not going to dispute him winning that vote. I'm just saying that if Im picking a PG in our area to start a team, it'd be Timmy (this year or last).There are a couple of very good 2 guards and/or combo guards around here, but no others that are a top player in our area that are "pure" PG's (though one or two of those combo or 2's can and do play PG some).

Yes, lots of talent. Also lots of balance when it comes to the (best) players and teams. Several l teams with a reasonable shot at winning it this year. I think there could be 5 or 6 that one could reasonably argue could win it. We shall see!
