Fairview Eagles

Fairview

It’s been proven that Fairview has a knack for finding talent walking the halls, the halls of other schools. After several years of having new found talent transfer to Fairview from out of state, it is truly hard to predict who will trot on the field for the Eagles in 2013. 2012 saw the KHSAA ruling a player ineligible, just to end with a local judge issuing an injunction allowing him to play. Will Fairview see more drama in 2013? Stay tuned.

Fairview has received one transfer from Huntington West Virginia - Coach James Hopkins. Coach Hopkins was a former assistant coach at Huntington High. Coach Hopkins replaces Coach L.T. Turner.

Fairview, hit hard by graduation, will try to build upon their first Regional Championship and first Championship Game appearance. Doing that will be a challenge considering the holes left to fill, but not knowing who may “move in” leaves everyone not knowing for sure. The Eagles seem to have several young players that may just be ready to step up and become productive players. Which ones will step up with authority? Which young players are going to show their hunger to keep Fairview on top?

The Eagles return their quarterback, sophomore Alex Roy. Roy has proven to be not only talented, but a smart player who feels comfortable running the offense for Head Coach Nathan McPeek. Junior Isaiah King will likely make an impact for Fairview on both offense and defense. King is a great athlete and may be seen in multiple locations in Fairview’s offense. Getting King a lot of touches will defiantly be a main focus of the Eagles, particularly in the first half of the season while getting experience for younger players.

The offensive and defensive line have several positions up for grabs from the 2012 team. Returning are Cody McPeek and Anthony Roark, both have proven to be quality linemen and provide a solid base to build the remaining line around. Like all teams, the Eagles will go as the offensive line goes. Surely, one of Coach McPeeks first and primary goals will be to find and develop the offensive and defensive linemen needed fill the vacant spots.

After several years of being criticized for strength of schedule, Fairview has added Hazard to their schedule. A move that may payoff for the Eagles in the playoffs if both teams advance to the Semi-Finals again. Fairview also added Bellevue and Pike County Central, both improvements for the schedule from a year ago. Fairview has made schedule improvements and strength of schedule may not be a point of criticism in 2013

Fairview, after last years performance, has to be considered one the front runners to advance to the Championship Game in 2013, but they will have competition from district foe, Raceland. With further competition in the region from what will be a quality Pikeville team. Can Fairview repeat as District Champions? Can Fairview repeat as Regional Champions? Can Fairview get back to Bowling Green? All questions that 1A fans will be contemplating over the 2013 season.

Players to Watch:

  1. Isaiah King (Jr. RB/WR/DB 5’9” 170) - King is a gifted athlete that will, more the likely, line up in multiple positions to maximize his touches and for the Eagles to get him the ball in space.
  2. Alex Roy (So. QB 6’2” 170) - Roy proved as a freshman that he had what it took to lead a team to the State Championships. Look for more of the same from Roy as a sophomore.
  3. Cody McPeek (Jr. OL/DL 6’3” 280) - McPeek returns to offensive and defensive line and will be much improved in 2013
  4. Anthony Roark (Sr. OL/DL 6’5” 280) - Roark is a solid lineman who will be a leader for whomever claims the open spots around him. Look for Roark to be a big leader for the Eagles.

Don't see them going undefeated for 3rd year in arow but should be a major player in who gets to bowling green! They have a much different style on offense and defense than most teams. In my opinion they are the most physical team in the area unless you consider johnson central in the area. They have major talent all across the board but so do other teams in their region. Good luck to all the teams but Fairview has great coaches and program.

What do you think about the improved schedule? I think upgrading the schedule will help Fairview in the long run with some playoff atmosphere type games with Hazard and possible Bellevue.

Their is a couple of inaccuracies in this article . first of all the KHSAA appealed the judge's ruling which the appeal was shot down in Lexington . 2nd Fairview is returning a lot more than what this article says , they're returning most of their line both O , & on D . Fairview is returning the biggest part of their D last yr . However i do agree they did lose a lot of skill players , but Fairview is loaded with talent . Fairview has 3 very talented backs that had 3 1st string starts , & several other 1st string snaps from last yr , they also have a 4th back who is talented while he hadn't any starts he did have a lot of 1st string playing time last yr . Fairview also has a incoming freshman which i was told by a coach he is very very highly talented , very quick , fast , has natural cuts ,& has soft hands . he compared him to Baker at Ashland to me .

Article does leave out alot if I'm not mistaken Mcpeek is D1 talent and Roark is being recruited as well no mention of that.

Feel free to add to it, being an outsider I have to go on what I recall from last year. Tell us more about McPeek and Roark I love linemen getting some credit. Also, I can't wait to hear about this freshman that Talon was talking about.

Just wondering Talon, do you know if and how many Huntington, WVa and Ohio players have transferred, been added this season and if so are they going to have to sit out a number of games before they can play ?

No response ?....May be they have heard about some of the residents in the Fairview district being pretty upset about voting in a school tax and keep seeing "transfers" come in and take spots/positions away from kids that have lived in the district and attended Fairview schools their entire life. Support for Fairview schools/athletics has always been there but I know at least one tax payer in the district that would have voted "No" on that levy. I know of some that are upset over this and thinking that Ashland Blazer and Russell schools are a short drive away.

Go talk to the administration or coach don't post online that's the unprofessional way

I'm a Raceland supporter and bleed orange and black but I have to say that you are being way too negative. Don't air your dirty laundry in public. I don't agree with all the Tri-state transfers but it is what it is. So, if you or your friends aren't happy with how your school has decided to build its program, take it up with them.

That will be done as well.

I respect your opinion but I don't think that anyone in this school can preach anything about being professional, especially in this area. I'm just saying.

Besides, pretty much everyone knows what is going on with it anyway, its certainly no big secret. I was just letting people know that there are some that live in the Fairview district that don't approve of or go along with what and how some things are done and believe in our Westwood area hometown kids win or lose.

Holy mad eagle disease.. Who let the crazy eagle loose in the room?

I have no dog in this fight.

But I've heard on more than one occasion that it can be pretty instructive looking at the license plates of vehicles in the parking lot at home football games.
