Why West Carter dropped them or why there is no Ashland / Fairview game week 0?

Either. Fairview played Ashland several years back, I think Fairview dropped that game.

It seems to be a terminology problem that I see repeatedly. Transfers happen, they happen all the time and in every school district. "Recruit" is a player that is sought after, sought out, encouraged. No coach, administrator, or many fans get worked up over a "transfer", what upsets people is, "recruits". Two words, totally different meanings.

 

Precisely... with that said it seems the difference between "transfer" and "recruit" seems to get interpreted differently as a direct results of a teams head to head success against the team in question.

 

When a kid from Greenup County "transfers" to Boyd County noone cares. When a kid moves from Boyd County to Ashland (even if it is prior to even starting High School) suddenly he was "recruited".

 

Moving away from KY has taught me if nothing else how comical it is to see how worked up people back home get about the "R" word in High School Athletics.

 

In Metro Atlanta "recruiting" actually exists. Kids' families suddenly get jobs, Private Schools hand out "academic scholarships", suburban public schools with enrollments of 550 students somehow have 14-15 Major D-1 Athletes on their Grade 9-12 roster (Buford), A High School with two Middle Schools is consistently Top 25 Nationally in basketball while their Middle Schools typically are the very worst in the county each year (Norcross). Yet back in KY, Highlands is accused of recruiting when they have actual transfers (after their Freshman Season) you can count on one hand over a two decade period.

 

I honestly think 9/10 times what the common fan wants to believe is "recruiting" in KY HS Football is nothing more than a parent or kid simply wanting to win or play with a specific group of kids.

And I don't know the answer to this but I wonder who this coach had in mind with those comments?

 

Does anyone know if this comment was in newspaper or on radio/tv?

My question is what question was ask him to get this response?

Was in the paper. My guess is he was asked how would he fill all the holes left after graduation.
